List of 2005 - 2009 S197 Frequent Issues

I wish we had some kind of sticky that listed frequently known issues with 2005 to 2009 Mustangs. My apologies if one exists here and I just haven't ran across it. Not that this thread should be the actual sticky, but here is what comes to mind from me.

2005 - 2009 4.0 V6

Leaking thermostat plastic housing. There is an aftermarket metal replacement made by Simmons Autosportz

2005 - 2008 Job 1 4.6 and 5.4 V8

2 piece spark plugs may break when removing

2005 - 2009 All Models

Passenger side water leak caused by clogged cowl drain holes. This may cause the smart junction box to become damaged. Damaged SJB's often exhibit incorrect functioning of the rear lights and other electrical issues.

Popping noise when going over speed bumps. This is often caused by older versions of the strut mount. Replace with the newer versions or GT-500 version. Beginning in April 2007 Ford added the 4R3Z5025A Cross Member brace to all models where originally it was only installed on the GT-500 and convertibles which did not exhibit the popping noise.

I'm sure some of the my details may be incorrect. Just what comes to mind over the last 9 years of reading Mustang forums.

I think that's an awesome idea. Not just the common problems but known fixes and TSBs like some of the ones you've listed. We've got a similar thread (we call it "They All Do That, Sir") on a bike forum I'm a member of. It's a great resource, especially when you've got some problem that manifests itself with weird symptoms.

I'll throw in a couple more (need to go back and add more info):
05-09 Skipper 500 killing batteries
05-09 Aluminum Hood corrosion issues (give up and go composite)
05-09 Door Panels peeling (usually happens faster in hotter areas)
05-?? Rear Axle vent tube overflows (install turkey baster)
