Valve cover removal/reinstall
Valve cover removal/reinstall
simple and stupid question...last night I removed the valve covers to paint them but the passenger side was a ***** to get out because of all of the wiring and crap, is there a quick easy way to remove all of the harnesses so I can reinstall it without scratching the **** out of it that wont require a bunch of extra effort or do pretty much have to remove a bunch of crap? I had to loosen the battery mount and move it just to pull the cover out.
Remove the coil packs, remove the nut on the front top of the motor that holds down what looks like some sort of electronic pickup/fuse link. After you paint use an old T-shirt over the freshly painted covers while slipping under the wiring. It's a PITA but should be ok if you take your time. I did mine and had no scratches after install. Just took my time.
Robello, I removed my valve covers with my father's help (he held the wire loom out of the way while I got the blue ones on. And I didn't even take off my battery, and kept the strut tower brace installed too. Only thing I removed, was the coils, like DavidM mentioned. Its easier with an extra set of hands.
Hey how's about about a boat we seen this today ?

try putting them on with a whipple blower in the way, that was a bigger PITA!!!
as for the passenger side, it was easy to get to all the bolts, and I had my dad assist me with the wiring harness. I just disconnected the wires from the coilpacks and he grabbed the whole harness and pulled it away from the covers giving it a nice wide open gap & pulled out the covers. did the same thing installing the new covers, and I coverd the valve covers using the styrafoam paper sheet that came with the covers to prevent it from scratching it when I installed them.

I wrote this set of instructions 2 years ago. I had trouble getting at the rear bolts on the cam cover without removing the battery. After I pulled the battery and battery tray, getting at the bolts was fairly simple.

Exact opposite with a Roushcharger. Passenger side was the PITA and the driver side was a piece of cake. Throttle body sits over the valve cover on the passenger side.
