R-134a is the refrigerant used by the car to run the A/C. It used to be R-12, but it had adverse effects to the environment so you have to be licensed to get the R-12. R-134a is easily obtainable at your local auto parts store or even Wal-Mart. All you need to add it back is the adapter hose that goes to the shrader valve on the car from the can.

Go to a qualified A/C Tech and let them do it. It can be very dangerous if you do it wrong or over fill or under fill the system.

I cannot imagine what he removed that would have caused the Freon to escape like that. Unless he unbolted the line right off the back of the A/C compressor. He is lucky he did not get burned from the freon

They sell a kit thatcomes with a gauge,so you do not over chardge the system....I'm a EPA certified HVACR tech and the only thing you may want to do is evac the system if it does not work properly...Moisture is not kind in a system.

If they made this kind of mistake to begin with it would probably be safer for everyone involved if they went to a mechanic.
