Just an update for those of you that were following my original thread a couple of weeks ago regarding my dyno results.
After installing a JLT II cai and X-2 tuner combo from Brenspeed, I had the car dyno'd and had a somewhat low reading of 276h/306tq. Remember the car is a manual. This test was done on a Dynojet with no a/f monitoring. We were thinking that some extra tuning was needed, so.........
Today I met with Brent from Brenspeed, and had a bung installed on the stock H at DynoTech before putting the car on the dyno. Once on the dyno, we made several pulls and noticed some spikes on the high end of the rpm range, above 6K. Brenspeed's tuning software noted that my car was actually making more power by reducing the timing; any advance got us nowhere and even lost some power. We are unsure why this is; Brenspeed is going to do some research and see what may be causing this. We ended up with a best run of 280h/301tq. A/F was 12.6 at peak power; however peak was on one of the spikes at the highend; I don't believe it to be an accurate number until we figure out whats causing those spikes and how to flatten them.
Just for kicks, we reinstalled the factory airbox and factory tune. All stock except for the Bassani axle-back, the car made 266h/294tq. Comparing these stock numbers to our best numbers listed above, the JLT Series II kit and X-2 tuner made 14 more peak horse and 7 more peak torque.
Hopefully we can figure out why the car doesn't like additional timing, and squeeze some more power out of it with more tuning.

You had the right man working on your ride. I am not sure that dyno numbers mean that much. Once I thought they did. What counts is how fast you can get from here to there 1/4 mile away and the proof is on the road. The dyno numbers did prove my TB is not worth a poot and I did not leave it on long enough to test it in the 1/4.

Heck, other intakes that don't require a tune (K&N, Airraid, etc.) are netting those kind of numbers with out a tune.
Hope you get things figured out.

I'll see if I can post my dyno chart later tonight so you guys can see what I'm talking about. I think that we could make more power if we could get more timing in it; this is probably why other people have had better luck with their cai and tuner. Just proves that every car is different and you shouldn't be sold on other people's results. If anyone has any ideas why the car wouldn't respond to timing (other than low octane), please let me know.
FYI: the car is running on 93 octane from BP.
Thanks,

Yah Tom's car was not a fan of anything but stock timing which can be ran with 87 octane. He runs a good 93 octane fuel which normally will allow a more agressive tune. Because his car was acting abnormal I didn't see any reason to lean it out for a few more HP (which I can do if you want Tom) so I left it at a mid to high 12. Next time we have it on the dyno with a new part we can continue work on it. I have tons of data log's to review to see if I can detect what was going on in your engine.

Did you degree the cam? sometimes they are set wrong from the factory.

No. I'm guessing that's alittle beyond what I could do. Hopefully Brent can find something in the datalogging info he has.
Thanks.
