trunk mount battery

Thinking about moving my battery to the trunk to help with keeping the engine compartment clean. How big of a pain is this move?

To clean up the engine bay. He said it up there. The battery isn't exactly... glamorous.

There is one thing to think about: the battery will emit noxious stuff, and so there should be a cover with a breather that leads out of the trunk.

The other pain is to get the long *** cables run under the car and connect them to the stock cables. That's gonna be fun.

I would instead look for a battery cover and leave the battery in the engine bay. It'll probably be cheaper and if it's for looks alone, it'll look fine. You could even make your own if you wanted. That'd be what I'd do.

My spare won't fit over the brakes anymore, so I whipped this up in the well. Cables run inside the car; battery is covered with Plexiglas and vented out the bottom.

If you take it to a Track, you'll need an unsightly external cutoff switch.

Who cares what the cutoff switch looks like.......it's a major safety issue. Having said that, we moved the cutoff switch from the rear bumper to the faux gas cap.

Engine bay without battery....but not moved for cosmetic reasons

LOL "Who cares what the cutoff switch looks like"
That is probably the best looking one I've ever seen on an S197.

If you Race a lot then sure. The OP wanted to move it to 'clean up' the engine bay.

Honestly if you don't race, can't you get away with a good fuse at both ends to take care of the safety issue? If the cable grounds out, then the fuse will blow and you're good.
