True dyno test of X-pipe and GTA's
True dyno test of X-pipe and GTA's
Now I know many dyno test after every part they install and as this is a good idea it's not a accurate way to test a product.
Cars will dyno different numbers on different days, so the only way to test any product is to do a base line the day your doing the install.
Here is a perfect example as to why.
Our shop 2007 GT was dynoed in March (55 degrees) and pulled 283 RWHP and 301 RWTQ.
Today in 95 degree heat it base lined 271 RWHP and 285 RWTQ. This is due to the heat and cars will learn when you make changes and make slight corrections, so you can not compair dyno runs from days or months apart.
So we pulled it off the rollers and installed the exhaust and then back on the dyno.
I was amazed it picked up a solid 5-10 RWHP and 10-12 RWTQ.
So with doing the base line the same day we were able to see a true gain. If we went off our last dyno run we would have been disapointed.
Take this for what it's worth.
Thanks
Jay

heck yea nice results and the run in march is pretty telling also. its nice to drive in the morning when its nice and cool. I always kinda wondered how much of a difference it was from a cool run to a hot run.

Jay,
You are correct that the only way to compare mods is to do a pull...change to the mod...and do another pull within a couple of hours on the same day under the same conditions to get some kind of feel whether a mod is worth anything or not. Kudo's

People don't give muffler gains enough credit. I, at first, assumed mufflers didn't net much power because you guys said so...but I think they do. A weld-in X-pipe isn't going to give you 7 horsepower...maybe if you got rid of the cats.
Maybe it's a placebo affect, but when I took off my Bassanis and put on the stockers, the car felt more sluggish.

I was already very happy with my FRPP X-pipe and GTA, now that's icing on the cake
I thought I felt a power bump after installing the X-pipe, it seems I was not dreaming. Wish I could get it dyno'ed with the Brenspeed tune thrown into the mix.

Thanks for going through the hassle to perform a before and after dyno pull. As an aside, one of the mustang mags published a dyno pull from the Flowmaster axle-backs and they actually caused a loss in horsepower though it was within pull to pull tolerances (2ish hp) that I would call it a net zero change in horsepower. So it just goes to show you that FRPP stuff is gewd!!

The reason I said it wasn't from the mufflers is because the GTA's and the stockers are so simliar in design. Going from the stockers to your Bassanis or Borla's is a much great leap in improved airflow. And I do happen to believe there is some gain from a few mufflers out there. 2 or 3 hp maybe. Just not from the GTA's.
I always felt exhaust made a little difference in power. I know when I installed my bassani x with cats and the mufflers, I could feel a difference. I wrote it off in my mind thinking the sound is making me think I can feel a difference.
Thanks for all the input.
I have not had the chance to drive the car yet, but my wife (who is not into cars
) says she can honestly feel a difference in driving it. That right there tells me we got a honest 10 HP. Most people can feel about 10 HP and up.
As for what made the power, this test took up enough time, I couldn't afford to do it for each part.
I think for the money (well under $500 for both) your getting good gains for as much as the just big name brand axle back price.
I was waiting for a Doug tune to come it, but it didn't make it in time. The car has a Evolution tune in it now.
The March graph is identical to this one, just boh lines are about 1 HP lower.
Thanks,
Jay

Good info. Thanks guys. About the GTA's, I didn't notice any gain by the SOP meter. But, 2-5 HP is hard to notice. Even 10 HP in this car is on the brink of noticeability. The dyno is the way to find out if you can play with it for quite a while before and after.
Whether or not they give much HP, the GTA's sound and look really nice. I think coupled with the FRPP X-pipe there may be a few more HP in there. I'm going to try it.
