Transmission after drag racing

Any having any issues with their transmissions after drag racing? I raced last night and my 2nd gear is grinding like crap. It started after a few passes so I figured the tranny was just hot so I let it cool down and it did it once again. But today it's doing it everytime I shift from 1st to 2nd. I can downshift from 3rd to 2nd no problem but 1st to 2nd sucks. Any clue what's wrong. I plan on taking it to the dealership tomorrow but wanted to get any info I could get here first.

I do have some tech knowledge but am by no means an expert, but here it goes. First, did you shift using the clutch (grannyshift) or did you powershift (shift without using the clutch). I suspect that you were powershifting given your problem, so it sound like you damaged or ground up a syncro gear or second gear entirely. If this is the case, there are expensive repair's in you future. If you shifted using the clutch, then I can't say for sure what the problem might be. But take it to the dealer no matter what so they can check it out!! Hope this help's

He probably was powershifting (you do use the clutch when powershifting) or he has missed 2nd a few times. Either way it's the syncro.

I powershifted on 3 out of the 5 runs and it was only after powershifting those runs that it started having problems. I also think it is the syncro. I don't know why that couldn't be fixed under warranty but if you guys know something I don't let me know.

The worst thing they can do is say no. That's a big labor fix so if I were you I would get my car as close to stock as possible. Stock exhaust, stock pulleys, stock intake, AND DEFINATLY STOCK SHIFTER.

Talked to the guy and he said that he didn't see why unless they could determine without a doubt that my mods caused the problem that it wouldn't be a problem to fix. He also said that he would probably rather just put a new tranny in it than fix the one now.

just be sure for 'description of problem' the words powershifting or dragstrip are not logged

I was at the strip last night too(second time- first time was 1984) got a best of 14.02 @ 102.25...10 runs all powershifted, I did bump second on the second run, but so far so good...wasnt like a 'grind me a pound' noise, just felt the teeth thru the shifter- like a almost instant buzz of 4-5 clicks as I pulled it back- very close to missing engagement/heavy damage at redline...luckily it just caught and went in, but just by dumb luck.
suprisingly hit third every time, got a chirp everytime...I woulda guessed to NEVER miss second, but I think getting caught up in the moment the clutch was coming up as the shifter came back...still cant figure out how i got third every time...now If I could just learn to launch...its all about that first few feet, and if you spin at all...a lot harder than I thought it would be with a stick(last time was my 302 auto 69- only ran a 15.6!).

ran a 14.4 with wife and kids in the car- they loved it

Keep your foot floored on the gas and shift as fast as you can.
