Trans Brake or Stall converter ?

Hi.

Winter is here car goes to sleep yesterday for 4 month, time for preparing the future mod for the next drag racing season.

I'm not a mechanic at all.

I'm thinking on going with a TCI 3000 stall converter, some people says as it's my daily driver putting that on my car will be insane, some says in daily there is no difference. Anyone with this and with some information ?

Some says instead of a stall converter i should go to trans brake. What is that ? never found such thing on a mustang 05 shop.

Of course i have an auto.
Actually i ran 1.901/8.276/12.908 @ 109.6mph. On Nitto 555. Next year i will go with slick, i want to launch harder, my goal is 12.60 for next year.

Go with the stall converter you will be very happy a transbrake is not available on our transmissions. A transbrake puts the transmission in forward and reverse at the same time operated by an electric solenoid. This enables you to rev the engine as high as the converter will go without the car moving. You can then just release the button controlling the transbrake and the car launches very hard. Most transbrake equipped transmissions are race only but some are available in a street/strip version.

What he said, you dont need to use the brakes and the car wont move forward past the line.

to take advantage of a transbrake you need to get a very loose torque converter to allow the engine to rev higher when the brake is activated. in my super gas car i have run as high as 7200rpm stall and no lower than 4500rpm. thats how you get 60' times in the 1.20's and 1.teens.
i've begged tom at performance automatic to make one for our cars but he feels the input shaft is too weak. it's the size of a pencil? roughly is what he said. i highly reccomend TCI's converter. but to take advantage iof it you need a good tune. doug @ bamachips is magic with that. he's the reason i can run 12.20's n/a with just bolt-ons.

Ok for the trans brake. thanks. Understand better now.

i'm already running with a 94 race tune from doug.

I'm totaly convinced by a tci converter. My only fear is driving with it everyday to go to work. Half of the people say it will change nothing to my driving habit, the other half says i will have to rev at high rpm to move, that can be annoying in town traffic.

if you are getting mixed opinions on a converter, then you may want to consider a rear gear change. (I didn't notice one in your signature). For auto's you can go two steps up to a 3.73 or even four steps to a 4.10. Should give you a nice launch. The only drawback for a commute is a slight decrease in MPG as you go with smaller and smaller gears.

fortunately some of that can be adjusted in the tune. there are over a hundred different adjustments that can be made to the trans and converter. my converter's peak flash stall is 4100rpms(it was custom built) but i have a great street tune that locks the converter a little earlier to reduce the rpms needed for everday driving. i don't find it annoying at all. i do drive my car to work sometimes in fact i've been driving it everyday for the last 2 weeks cause my wifes minivan took a poop. i still get 19 mpg average and thats with 4.30 gears also. we have an advantage over older cars with our electronic controlled trans and lock-up converter.
get the converter before the gears. if you are driving everyday go with 3.73 or 3.90 ratio. with 3.73's i tach'd 2600rpm at 80mph.....with the converter.
you will have a lot more fun going to work if you get the TCI conv.
the parking lot at my office building has lots of long blackmarks on it from release of stress after sitting in traffic for 1-2 hours to go 8 miles.

I just wanted to add that you should consider a Precision Industries converter, TCI isnt the only good brand.
