Tranny leak in storage
Tranny leak in storage
Anyone besides me experience an auto tranny leak while the car sits over the winter? My car ('07 GT Auto) has been sitting in the garage since 1 December while we wait out the winter here in Wisconsin. It was sunny and warm today (32+ degrees), so I started the car up and let it run for a while. I pulled it out of the garage and noticed a puddle of tranny fluid on the garage floor. It has never leaked before. Could this be a dry seal because it hasn't run for 2 1/2 months or so? Any ideas?
Your Avitar shows that you are a Ford Dealer/maybe a Mechanic? My engine was pulled and the tranny had work done, but that was over a year ago. I haven't had the chance to locate the source of the leak yet, but I assume there are not many places to look. It's a bummer that the weather will delay me from getting it to a repair shop. Too much snow, ice and road salt. Thanks for your reply.
The auto tranny in my '82 Vette leaks if it sits for more than a month. A mechanic once told me it's because the fluid drains out of the torque converter after sitting so long and raises the fluid level in the pan, thus causing it to seep out of the seals.
