Tranny leak in storage

Anyone besides me experience an auto tranny leak while the car sits over the winter? My car ('07 GT Auto) has been sitting in the garage since 1 December while we wait out the winter here in Wisconsin. It was sunny and warm today (32+ degrees), so I started the car up and let it run for a while. I pulled it out of the garage and noticed a puddle of tranny fluid on the garage floor. It has never leaked before. Could this be a dry seal because it hasn't run for 2 1/2 months or so? Any ideas?

Your Avitar shows that you are a Ford Dealer/maybe a Mechanic? My engine was pulled and the tranny had work done, but that was over a year ago. I haven't had the chance to locate the source of the leak yet, but I assume there are not many places to look. It's a bummer that the weather will delay me from getting it to a repair shop. Too much snow, ice and road salt. Thanks for your reply.

The auto tranny in my '82 Vette leaks if it sits for more than a month. A mechanic once told me it's because the fluid drains out of the torque converter after sitting so long and raises the fluid level in the pan, thus causing it to seep out of the seals.

Dont fret...i had an 05 auto...and back then alot of auto guys including places like Alternative auto and others had auto cars that leaked tranny fluid...it's not actuall a leak..Ford overfilled alot of transmissions with fluid...and when you drive em hard or they get heated up...some fluid would blow out of a vent. Usually this leaked down between the bellhousing/inspection cover area and motor..also gets dripped on a k-member brace if you have one...and drips to the floor. When you drive it...fluid gets blown into that area...and when its parked long enough..seeps down onto floor. Most people including myself...drained a quarter quart or so,out of trans. No leaks after that. Call some people who have an auto they run hard,Like Alternative ,or Brenspeed ,or ask Doug at Bamachips...they will tell you all about it. I was nervous when i first saw that too...with like 2000 miles on it...but after draining off a small amount of fluid...problem solved! Good luck
