TPMS readout

I have a 2007 mustang and it has tpms. (tire pressure monitoring system). However it does not have the actual pressure readout in the dash. If a tire is low it simply says low tire pressure.

I hear the 08+ have the actual presure readouts for the tires. Is there any way of enabling this on the 07? It could come in handy as I already have to deal with it so I might as well get the full benefit of having them.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

News to me as I have not seen that in the info center on my 08. Z06 vette has pressure read out though. I did see a tire pressure system failure message about 100 miles after changing wheels though. Got them reset at the dealer. system is fine now.

That is bs, from what I remember it was required to have readout in 08+ cars. Maybe im wrong. Regardless. Why in the hell do we have tpms and no real readout.

There has to be a way of getting that option.

I just replaced my wheels as well and actualy went through the truble of getting a set of sensors + band + the training tool. There has to be more to this system than the idiot light.

Anyone else has input to this?

Sorry, you are wrong. The government requires TPMS on all 2008+ cars, but it doesn't require anything more than sensors on each wheel and an idiot light in the dash. A few (very few) cars have a readout telling you how much pressure is in each tire, or you can get an aftermarket system that will do that for you, but you're still stuck with the idiot light in the dash, no easy way to get rid of that. I personally hate that TPMS is mandated on all new cars, I have multiple sets of wheels and tires for most of my cars, and don't want to bother with the hassle and expense of TPMS for any 2008+ cars I own or will buy in the future (or having an idiot light on). At least for my race wheels/tires, I'll just do without the sensors, and live with the light if/when it comes on, until I switch back to street tires.

I disagree with thevery few cars having a readout. 90% of newer cars I have seen have them. Ive been in gm and chrysler cars that cost way less than a mustang that have the readout. As for the mandation, I could be wrong.

The 06 explorer my buddy has has it as well. Why the hell not a mustang?

.....and I'd say 90% of the newer cars I've been in have not had individual psi per tire readouts. I guess we obviously haven't been in the same cars. From what I've seen, it is usually the higher end cars that have the individual TPMS readouts. Frankly I could care less what kind my cars have, if they only had an off switch for the TPMS.

Just out of curiosity, what GM and Chrysler cars that cost way less than $20k (since that is about what Mustangs start at) have you been in that have individual TPMS readouts?

I have an '08 GT and it only displays the light and a message on the info screen...no actual numbers. I found out when I picked up a nail and the light alerted me long before I could tell I had a low tire. Got it patched up and was on the way quickly.

Certainly I would rather have actual numbers, just like I would like a real oil pressure gauge (instead of one that just reads off or on) and an ammeter instead of a voltmeter. For that matter, it really is sad that we get no numbers on anything except speed and RPM anymore...I recall when you actually could read psi and degrees and amps and such. However, the vast majority of the motoring public has no clue and just want to know things are "OK". I heard Ford dropped the oil pressure in favor of a pressure switch not to save money (cost is the same and they actually had to add a resistor to the meter circuit so it would read mid-scale) but to save on all the service calls of "Why is this going up and down?" and so forth. Even the voltmeter, which could theoretically be useful is so damped in its movement to be worthless other than saying , "yes, there are some here".

Jeep patriot has tpms readout, chevy cobalt has em, newer civics have them. All cars for UNDER 20k, let along the fact that my GT was nearly 30k. the base charger which can be picked up for under 20k has em as well.

In any case, arguing about the need and the price point is useless. This is a feature ford did not put in and I believe its a waste of good technology. Its like having having a high end computer and using it for word processing only.

My 08 only displays low tire pressure as well. I've picked up a screw two times so far, and while I was alerted of the low pressure, I had to check all four tires to see which one was low. What also doesn't help is that the alert doesn't go off until something like 24 pounds.
