I've personally never been on a good enough road to push mine much into the triple digit range. But since this post was originally about tire ratings it should be said. Speed ratings are for sustained speeds. So a 168+ mph tire could actually run at that speed continually with brief spurts well above that.

According to my metric converter 240km/hr = 149.13 mph. Real fast but not 168.

I took mine above where the speedo registered and then the governor cut it out. I think it was going a few mph over what the speedo said, probably 148.

And my girlfriend never woke up, LOL.

There's a vortech supercharger ad in MM&FF that says they hit 192 before hitting the rev limiter in 5th gear

[quote=MSP,October 24, 2005, 6:15 AM]
2005 GT Mustang @ 175MPH in 4th gear= 7731 RPM

2006 GT Mustang @ 180MPH in 4th gear= 7952 RPM
2005 GT Mustang @ 175MPH in 5th gear= 5257 RPM

2006 GT Mustang @ 180MPH in 5th gear= 5407 RPM
So basically, its a pipe dream to run a 2005 or 6 Mustang GT @ 175MPH or 180MPH..

What the heck are you talking about here????
There is no difference in power between an 05 and 06.
Not to mention all the Ford GT quotes.
I'd check your source.... :notnice:

The top speed isn't electronically governed. The car runs out of ***** before it runs out of gear.

You're kidding, right?

All of you thinking that taller gears means higher top end. You must be thinking about running in a vacuum. 155 is about the max un-governed stock top end because of drag. Look at the difference in torque/hp at given rpms. Unless a couple of you want to disprove the below theory by testing out your stangs (1 w/ 3:27's and 1 w/ 4:10's). I'll stick w/ the math.

3.55's in 4th
RPM/3.55*87.9645943005142(tire circumference)*60(min/hr)/5280(ft/mi)/12(in/ft)
3.55's in 5th
RPM/3.55/0.675(5th gear ratio)*87.9645943005142(tire circumference)*60(min/hr)/5280(ft/mi)/12(in/ft)
4.10's in 4th
RPM/4.10*87.9645943005142(tire circumference)*60(min/hr)/5280(ft/mi)/12(in/ft)
4.10's in 5th

Your saying our stock cars are limited to 155 because of drag and NOT the governor? :nono: :nono: You have yet to test its abilities...

Since I'm sitting in Germany and will be here for a few more years.

Where can I get an Instrument Cluster that has KPH's as the main speed?

Right now I have MPH with KPH in small letters.

i don't plan to either but if you have do tell!! regardless what that drag-limit # is based on the #'s it appears that 4:10 should be good for several more mph due to the higher rpm thus increased tq/hp.
