For cars exceding 160mph, El Mirage requires the use of a chute, and for you to recieve your speed you have to shut down AT the lights, and deploy said chute. (Southern Callifornia Timine Association rules for 175mph apply to El Mmirage at 160 due to the length of the course.)

If you're running w/o doing it on an official race day - do they just let you run?

I have only done unofficial runs, bringing guys out there with me on walkie-talkies to be extra sets of eyes, and running the length at a slower speed first to make sure the stretch of bed isn't compromised by rough ground.

I really have no doubt that the stang can do 165-170 no problem with a good intake and tune.
Well during my 156 blast it certainly felt like it was pulling hard at 150 in 5th, but that pulling hard feeling dropped off dramatically at 154 and I reached 156 after about a few seconds at 155. That was with an intake and tune.

I've since added long tube headers and 4.10 gears, so my top end has come down, but hey, it's not everyday I drive 150 plus and don't really plan to anymore. The 4.10's make it a blast on the street and strip

A friend with a dyno and/or the SCT PRP still has to make an aftermarket tune for the blower. Anything not programmed at the factory is "aftermarket", and one of those things is the speed limiter. A stock manual GT will be electronically limited to 145 mph (at least for the 07s) and 6250 RPM.

Thank You!

With their estimated crank shaft horsepower, I'd guess they measured roughly 500-530? rear wheel. Hmmmmm...
Wonder which issue the road and track testing reffered to was done in... Hmmm...

OK I found it! Road and track dot com. Thunder Road: The Standing Mile April 13 2007

Its been nearly 20 years since I was last there testing my Rally car. As far as I know the bed is not private property. You do what you do at your own risk when SCTA is not out there doing something and controling it. There can be other people out there wondering around doing thier thing too. It is a good idea to prerun a course ... don't want to find any ruts at speed. It would be safer and smarter to run out there when SCTA is running an event. Situation is more predictable and help is there should something go wrong.

Just a question. Why would you want to. [/QUOTE]

I certainly wouldent on the street. Mainly safety and not wanting to become someones prison shower buddy.

But also you need alot of room to extract that last bit of speed.

If I had a closed track and enough room, why not??

My pucker factor requirement has definitely been lowered as I get older for sure.

I managed a 256 km/h (159 mph) top speed on the German Autobahn with just a CAI and BamaChips 95 RON tune on a rather cold morning around 3-4 AM. That was the speed shown on the GPS, but I can't vouch 100% for it.

PS: hood pins seem to be a must for speeds over 100 mph for me...

At 61 I feel very mortal. I still have a need for speed now and then, but not cracking 200 MPH on 4 wheels ... though that is preferable to only two.

I believe Livernois had theirs over 200 when they came out here to Lemoore when they made runs down our Runway. I don't believe they had too many aerodynamic mods. They were however pumping over 800hp.

They do this little run out here in Lemoore every couple of years where they bring out all kinds of supercars (Henessy Venom Vipers, Ligenfelter Vettes, Accufab's Ford GT, etc...) it's a blast. They race our jets and shred tires all over the place. It's a beautiful thing.
