Which tires to get?
Which tires to get?
OK guys im about ready to pull the trigger on some wheels here, and I was just wondering what tires everyone is running, and what your thoughts were on them. I have a chance to get the 18' staggered shelby torq thursts in chrome with goodyear eagle f1 supercars for about 2300 or with toyo tr1s for 2500. Which tire do you guys think is better and why. I could also maybe try to get the bfg kdws. what do you guys think about those?
I would go with the Goodyears. I have heard good things about them and most likely will be putting them on my car next year since I should be able to squeeze 1 more season out of the GForce KDW-NT T/A's I have. As much as I like the looks of the KWD-NT's, I hate how loud they are when cruising down the road.
are the kdws really that loud I keep hearing that while others say they arent so bad. I have and slp exhaust and i doubt i would hear the tires over that . They have good ratings and supposedly handle the wet stuff well. Which is important since i live in vancouver. The goodyears I have read alot of bad reviews about and am really not considering them ne more, and the toyos I have heard are really soft and wear really quickly. ne more input from you guys would be great
- I recommend:
- Stock GT 17" Rims, Chrome-plated by Capital Original Wheels.
- Hankook 17" 255mm 50% tires.
- Cost:
- $500 for a set of four chromed factory rims, plus $150 for two-way shipping (I live in Washington, so I'm guessing you would pay the same) = $650
- $111 per tire, plus 12.50 mounting & balance plus 6.50 for Chrome valve stems times four = $520
- Twenty Chrome-plated locking lugs = $80
- Total = $1,250
- Why:
- You have a solid rear axle, and that mass needs to be sprung to prevent wheel hop on washboard. The lower the aspect ratio, the worse this problem becomes. In other words, the car is less likely to fishtail out in hard cornering on a rough road surface.
- Classic 50% aspect ratio tires look good on this retro Mustang.
- Because the rubber protrudes out about an inch past the rim, you won't erase your rims on the first curb stone you accidentally rub.
- It's damned Scottish!
