Tire size advice for 18x8.5" rims

I just ordered a set of 18x8.5" black Bullits (05+ offset) and I'm looking for tires. I found a great deal at a local store, but my question is: are 255/45ZR18 tires too wide for the rims?

Here's a short calculation I made:

Tire width: 255 mm
Rim width: 8.5 x 25.4 = 215.9 mm
=> tires are 19.55 mm (3/4") wider on each side of the rim.

It seems ok to me, but maybe the experts have a different opinion?

Thanks for your input!

255/45/18 should be fine. Anyone with a good tire mounting machine for aftermarket tires, and low profile applications should have no problems. On a regular tire machine, they're a pain in the ***!

255-45-18 should be fine. That is what I am going to run on my polished bullitts when I am done with the factory bfg's.

But I would not go wider if you are going for cornering. To much tire squirm. Even the 255 is pushing it a bit but should be fine.

I autocross and I stuffed 275 35 18's on a 18 x 8 Wedsport rim. The 18 x 8.5 should easily swallow a 255.

Got 265/40/18 BF Goodrich KDW on mine and they look good and run even better.

Thanks for the replies, guys!
I ordered the rims and tires, but I won't install them until the end of February, when it gets warmer.
