Question About Antenna

I was wondering if it was ok to remove the factory antenna and not put any kind of plug in its place. I don't listen to the radio and the antenna makes
it harder to get the car cover in place. I look forward to any replies.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I assume you want to just unscrew the antenna leaving the base mounted to the fender. That is fine, but I would recommend going to the hardware store and buying a 3/4 inch bolt to plug up the hole. Take the antenna with you to the hardware store to find a bolt with the right diameter and thread pattern. Paint the bolt black to hide it better.

I hope you really don't mean "not put any kind of plug in its place" cause that is just asking for water to leak in.

My car cover came with a grommet for the hole where the antenna is supposed to be. You have to make the hole yourself using scissors and then snap on the grommet which will keep the hole from expanding.

My car cover is from Covercraft.

That looks nice Taco Bill, and I saw a pic of yours later. Did you order yours from that site, and did you get the satin or polished finish?

I got the same thing as Bill only I sanded and spray painted it. Just throwing out another idea for you.

At the time I got mine, it only came in satin/brushed finish. I put in in my drill motor and dipped it in some Mothers Polish and buffed it up to a nice shine, then clearcoated it.

That's exactly what I did!!!

I just suggested the "black bolt" idea cause the thread starter didn't want to plug it with anything and I thought a black bolt would be the lowest profile. But I really dig the look of the antenna nub.

Go back to your dealer and get the plug they removed to install the antenna. Ford cars come with the hole plugged from the factory. Get several while you are there as they just throw them away.

Mongoose is right...the dealers simply throw away the plugs that are there before they screw in the antenna...I have one that I use to plug the hole (after removing the antenna with a 10mm wrench) so that I don't have to cut a hole in my car cover...
