ticking noise at start up

when i crank my 06 gt it sounds like the lifters or something make a loud ticking noise for about 10 to 15 seconds.after the initial crankup it doesnt do it again until it sits up a few days.does anybody else have this problem and is it something to be concerned with if its just the lifters leaking down?

It's either the lifters or more likely the timing chain rattling from no oil pressure. If the engine sits for a few days the oil can leak out of the oil filter, especially if you use an aftermarket filter with a non silicon anti-drainback valve. Always use a Motorcraft filter.

Does it do it when you stop at a stop light? I had this problem happen. It turned out it was the cam followers which were bad. I had to firhgt for 2 months to get it fixed. Good as new now

Tell me about it! While installing my WB O2 sensor, I fired up the car with the hood open and when I came back around to the front, I almost started swearing because it sounded like I had a nasty exhaust leak.

When I moved my head closer to verify that it was from the passenger side O2 sensor (the one I swapped out), I realized I was just hearing all those noisy fuel injectors clicking away.

They are loud little buggers!
