While waiting on my oil to cool down yesterday so I could change it I decided to check out the "Throttle by wire" in action. I removed the intake at the throttle housing, put a mirror in front of the car and with the ignition in the run position hit WOT - surprisingly - the throttle immediately opened all the way....I had figured that Ford may have programed a slight delay in WOT - but didn't appear that way. Of course, sitting still with the engine not running is not a very scientlfice test!

Anyone hear about a larger Throttle body being developed for our '05? Wonder if it would make a decent improvement with the CAI/Xcalibrator.......

AND I wasn't going to admit to doing this - but since I had the TB off I went ahead and dremeled off the extra 1/4 inch per throttle plate screw that Ford left hanging in the airway - once I cut and smoothed the screw ends with the dremel I then took a nail punch and hammer and carefully tapped the bolt edges so they will not back out - then, (yes I'm a total gearhead ), I polished the bores of the TB for better air flow. Just be careful not to touch the Throttle plates as they have a coating you don't want to remove). Test drive today - she runs faster and jumps higher - that's my story and I'm sticking to it

Wow - thanks guys - that might be worth waiting to get the CAI/Xcalibrator & TB all in one shot. Can't wait to see dyno results on a larger TB.....

Hey Gordo - do you have the link - I can't seem to get to the BBK website.....

Yeah me too - you never know with TB's ....I had the 70MM BBK TB on my '00GT and although it added only a few hp's (without a tune - just K&N) it still made the engine feel like it would rev quicker. I would imagine I may have gotten more out of the TB with a CAI. I was looking at some of the BBK TB's today and the twin plate TB's are pretty expensive - almost double what I spent on my 70MM single plate.....going to have to get a decent increase in HP to justify $350+ bones........

October 28, 2004 - All-New 2005 Mustang GT drive by wire throttle body to be released in January
This all-new twin bore design unit is undergoing final testing and will be a direct fit for the 2005 4.6 3-V Mustang which recently started hitting Ford showrooms around the country.

But it sounds like they might have run into a couple problems and are now delayed until summer; thanks to the info from Bryan. Looking forward to seeing this mod.

What kind of ball park gains are achieved with a larger throttle body?

Dozer that's the million dollar question....probably installed with no other mods - not much - but with a CAI & Xcalibrator - it may add a few ponies....going to have to wait until someone get's the b4/after set up on a dyno.

Dozer, not many mods will give you a ton of gains all by them selves.... but they compound when used in conjunction with others.... for example, this is going back to the 5.0 days.... the GT40 intake would give you 40 hp over the stock...... but that was when used in conjunction with the GT40 heads.... Most companies will use marketing like that to boast bigger gains.
So, if you want to understand what a larger T-body is going to do for your engine.... think about breathing through a straw, and running a 100 yard dash. You'll breath better without the straw...
So, just so you know what to expect, if and when you replace the T-body, you're going to have to tune the engine so that it knows what to do with the added volume of air..
so yeah.... bla bla bla.... give me a because I'm sure I just said a bunch of crap that everyone already knows.
