Thumbs up

I have ford racing headers that have the ceramic coatings and they are of course the shorty style . I also have the bassani X pip . OK Now here is the question, should I rap the two short down tubs that go from the headers to the cats with Thermo - Tec Exhaust Wrap ? and if so will it shorten the life of theses two tubs?? I called a teck at summit and he said I should not bother. People whom do this replace there header once every one two two years. mainly people whom race use the raps>>
.. The main reason why I'm doing this is to help reduce under hood temperatures ..........

I don't know if this helps but . . . . I wrapped the headers from flange-to-flange six years ago on my Jeep to keep the temps down and haven't experienced any problems or header failures. They get wet and muddy every time out.

I used the woven sort of stuff that comes in a roll with a two inch width as I recall. I soaked it in water before applying it and was able to get it cinched on there real tight. I used the stainless tie wraps you can get to secure it in the places it needed it. After it dried real good I coated/soaked the wrap with the highest temperature header paint I could find in a rattle can to seal it all up.

Just my $.02 . . .

I would not do this - with the up and down cycles of the metal getting very, very hot and then cooling down - condensation will occur.

If the pipes are wrapped - the condensation will not evaporate and it will promote rust.

For what it's worth - I learned this info from my Subaru WRX days.

I've heard that it eats up the pipes, which coencides with what A-Rex stated.

...that would be memeber #1425

Condensation would be an issue with wrapping for sure.
Best thing would be Jet-Hot the pipes inside and out.... Now thats

Hello  honest . . . . . . . I have gotten six years out of a fully wrapped set of cheap **** headers on my '71 CJ5 w/ a V6 that get soaked darn near every time it gets driven :bang: and expect to easily get six more . . . . your mileage may vary

P.S. I almost forgot . . . I have a '97 Neon I did the same thing this gentleman is considering . . . when I got it new in '97 . . . . with the same wrap as I used on my Jeep . . . . it now has 225,000 miles on it and the pipe ain't rotted through yet . . no, it's not stainless either .

P.S.S. I live in snow country too . . .
