Now im a newb to modding engines but i thought the C&L intake was a Cold air Intake. If thats the case then why is the inlet tube Burning hot after im driving. I would think its heating the air gonig into the throttlebody. can anyone shed some insight to this?

NOT !!! That is the ongoing problem with the C&L CAI kit. People running this kit are not getting the HP that is claimed by C&L. Hot air = less HP. I went with the Steeda kit just for that reason. I couldn't be happier with the #'s I'm getting.

Not sure where your getting your info from or what your smoking. If folks are not getting good #'s from the C&L, they apparently need a better tune. All you've got to do is search this forum - I haven't found a user yet that wasn't happy with C&L.

Here's a dyno result for a C&L from a previous Post

Glad your happy with your Steeda....

This controversy has been around as long as intakes have been around. The air does not sit in the intake long enough to have an affect. And if you search the site, you will find numerous dyno results that prove people are getting the advertised numbers.

Drive your car for a couple of hours non stop and tell me how hot the inlet pipe is. I know for a fact you can't even touch it without burning your finger. So, you're saying you won't loose HP? But hey, I guess it doesn't matter just as long as it looks pretty.

I won't deny that it gets warm, but I can tell you for a fact that it won't burn your hand.

this is the post he is taking about

porsche,
When did you check the intake pipe?
Mine feels just slightly warm to the touch if I check it immediately after shutting down the engine. But it does feel hot if I check it 15-30 minutes after shutting down, and it has a chance to heat soak.
However, out of curiosity I recently did some data logging of the IAT(inlet air temperature) with the Predator after letting the intake pipe heat soak for 30 minutes after a run to see what effect a hot intake pipe had on the IAT.
And it showed that the IAT dropped from a hot 118 F to a much cooler 82 F(almost ambient) after driving only about a 1/2 mile at 40 mph. This shows that the IAT cools off very quickly, and any hp loss because of hot intake air is only momentary, even with an initially hot intake pipe.
In addition, the IAT stayed at almost ambient unless I stopped for a stop sign or traffic light. But even then it rose only a few degrees, and almost immediately cooled back down to almost ambient.
So not to worry.
If thats true than i have no issues with it. Also do u think heat shielding the plastic guard that stops hot air from getting into the filter would make a difference? or even going further and heatshieling the inlet tube itself. i would be using the Thermo-Tec Adhesive Backed Heat Barriers.

Just make sure it's the good NASA shielding, not the stuff that falls off.

Between intake, canned tune, and then optimzing the tune on a dyno: +30 rwhp. :worship:

I'm satisfied with the C & L, to say the least.

pittperson,

Brenspeed posted that info in one of his threads not to long ago. The new C&L is going up to 90mm and Plastic.

tbird,
The stuff I used is what U want for sure, well worth it.Not the NASA tiles
Debate on plastic vs metal vs time spent in tube...blah,blah..cooler is better in my book
