After much debate and deliberation I had my gear swapped back to stock. Going to 1/4 track Sunday and I'll post numbers and comparisons.

Already with the G-Tech I can see some HP graph differences with the nod towards the 3.31. Not going to be able to match the g's I hit off the line with the 4.10 though

Ordered a bassini x-pipe with comp cats that I hope to install next weekend.

Care to elaborate? What made you decide to go back to 3.31's?

While the car was a blast to drive around town I saw no gains at the track. On stock rubber the best 1/8 was 9.04 and my best 1/4 was 14.069. That's WITH a tune from both Diablo and SCT.

With Gas .60 more a gallon than when I put the gear in, the car reving out so fast, and no perf increase for me I opted to go back to stock gearing.

I saw another post where an auto was making times the same as mine, and a tenth or two better completely stock. I just don't think that low a gear is the way to go at this time.

I'm sure I could have dropped a grand or two into suspension upgrades to make the car stick better at the track but that's not practical for a daily driver.

I'm back at the track tomorrow so I'll know if the gear was helping or hurting me.

Good decision, especially if you will be making more power with mods later. I was able to get into the 12's with the manual trans stock gear while everyone else had to swap gears.

You never saw any gains because you were on street tires. 4.10s with a set of slicks would've made a huge difference.

The gas arguement is assinine as well. Only difference is you're shifting eariler. I had a set of 4.30s in my 98 Cobra and still got 18mpg around town. Just gotta keep your foot out of it. Besides, what did you expect with a V8?

Thanks for your thoughtful reply.....

Like I said, I could have done more to make it stick but it's my daily driver. I've never found slicks to be good on a day to day basis.

While you may believe the gas agument "assinine", believe it or not with the SCT tune the car shifted no earlier, but right when it was supposed to. If you mean at a lower mph then yes, the 4.10 is a lower gear and that is a byproduct of a lower gear, shifting at a lower mph. On the other hand cruising at 80 mph was turning 3K rpm vs 2500 with the 3.31. 3k vs 2500. That's a gas milage issue.

With the stock 3.31 I can keep my foot in it and still get 18mpg, higher if I drive like a normal idiot.

As for what I expected with a v8? I expect to get around a 13.9 or better quarter mile time stock and more with mods.

I think that will be a good decision for you. Personally if you do the math on the auto gearing and different rear gears 3.73's is about as much as you want. It's not so much first gear, but second and third are so close together that you basically drive thru them and end up not using the power you have. I think you will see your ET go down, and also your trap speed go down basically because of fourth gear and the stock gears. Let us know how your do.
Thanks Mike

I honestly wouldn't waste my time or money switching from 3.31's to 3.55's.... Yeah there would be a difference but it would be so small that it wouldn't make really any difference. Either keep it stock or get at least 3.73's.

I only got 3 runs in today. If i'd have known it was going to be just 3 i'd have done things differently. Was planning on 3 runs stock, then 2 runs each tune.
Well, I got one run stock, then 2 runs 93 perf but I tried to shift manuall and screwed the pooch. I'll have better luck Friday night. Here's the one run stock.
Today w/3.31................................Best 1/4 to date with 4.10/93diablo tune
60' 2.231 .........................................2.120
330 6.078.......................................... 5.927
1/8 9.231 @ 78.54 .............................9.062 @ 78.14
1000 11.856 .......................................11.709
1/4 14.239 @ 99.10............................14.069 @ 99.15

Due to being an imbecile I didn't do a leave it in drive and let the computer shift run with the diablo tune in it. The stock run today I just waited for the light and floored it, no break torquing or anything fancy.

I wish you could have gotten a clean run with the tune, but I think you are heading in the right direction. The ET difference is from the 60 ft, although that might be the gears, but you didn't power brake the car up either. Two things I noticed, your speed was faster at the 1/8th, and a touch slower at the end. You can't really judge the two slips unless you take actual weather data, but it does give you something to go off of. Let us know how she does this Friday.
Thanks Mike
