Supercharging A "Mature" Engine

Hello everyone. Just curious, what should be kept in mind when considering putting a blower on a "mature" engine? I ask because byt the time I save enough money for the blower and the various accessories my car will have at least 50,000 miles on it. I've thought off and on about staying NA but it might cost more than I want to spend. Or would it make more sense to stay NA if a lot of upgrading needs to be done to my nearly four year old engine?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jon

I say go for it. If it blows up, build a better one.

Yeah, I'll just go in the backyard and pluck some cash off the money tree I am growing.

I dont think it should be a problem, as long as you have kept the engine well maintained
just have it done right, and take it easy to start with.

I just recently put a Tork Tech kit running 7-8 psi on a 2000 4.6 with 90000 miles in a 97 Mercury Cougar and have not had any problems at all.
If you take care of your motor, well maintained, you shouldn't see any problems. These motors these days are even really broken in until 100000 miles.
Go for it, just don't over do what the bottom end can handle.

That kind of boost level (7-8) shouldn't be a problem.
No matter how new the engine is high boost levels can be problematic.

50k...lmao thats funny as hell. my 94 lightning has 184k and has 11 psi shoved in it regulary.thats using fords factory shortblock, only thing changed is the heads. the 4600lb brick has run 12.81 in 96 degree heat.
drove 1200 miles to race all weekend then drove 1200 miles back.

moral of the story.. keep up with the maintence, and stay within sane hp limits. it will run forever.

Some people have less money to spend on luxuries than other people do.

I wouldnt call 50k mature, just well broken in.

I just put a Whipple on my 46k mile engine. It's runnin' great! Granted I don't take it to the track so...

I would consider how much the engine has been beaten/maintained. You could have a engine with only 10k miles that has been really beat at the track for hundreds of runs that would probably be in worse shape than a DD that drives just highway miles. But that's all speculation.

I don't track my car either, just take it on the occasional "spirited" street drive on the many twisty roads around town. Staying N/A would have been cool but not if its going to cost that much. Time to start saving for the S/C!
