Thanks blkstang06. It seems the S197 STB's are a hit and miss in terms of complete compatibility with the plenum cover.

Rocky, the best I can tell the GMS STB makes little if no contact with even the hood liner and absolutely no contact with any inner hood supports. That was my same concern after the experience I had with the GT 500 STB.

Charlie, I believe that to be correct to some degree. Charlie on another note: As far as the Mount flanges being elongated I have come to the realization thru my many Spring and strut changes 3 different set of springs and 2 different sets of struts shocks removed and installed by myself and 4 trips to the alignment shop the holes in the strut towers have room for movement too, this is not by accident this provides the factory the necessary adjustably for fine tunning the alignment, So in saying that all strut tower braces are going to need some degree of flexibility in in there mounting position, Because no 2 Stangs are going to have the exact same distance on Strut mount bolts from side to side, even the Ford GT500 STB flange mount holes had room for strut mount bolt variance's

Thanks for the info.

Did you find lowering the OEM plenum cover was absolutely mandatory with the GMS single STB?

I hope you all understand that lowering the cover is a 4 minute job and the only reason ships it the way it does is becuase of the way the car goes down the assembly line. Otherwise they would save themselves the extra 4 nuts they are waisting

Lowering the OEM plenum cover is mandatory to keep from making an indent in the factory hood liner.
The first one I saw in '07 had noticeable marks right off the truck.

I'll assume this means, I can reinstall my sagging hood liner

I installed my plenum cover on the 07 without lowering it and it doesn't have any marks on the cover or the hoodliner.

It looks like there is a huge recess in the hoodliner to accomodate the cover.

Same here Charlie, I didn't need to lower mine until I installed the STB.....

Any STB will help hold that up. Most do sag, that is the root cause of the indents.

I just read the entire thread, did we ever conclude which STB's fit over the factory plenum cover without any modification/adjustments, as well as not hitting the hood or torque from the engine rubbing against the STB.
I've got an 08 GT/CS Vert and would like a little extra stiffness.
Many Thanks

From my understanding..Ford modified the hood liners in 07, in order to accomodate the OEM plenum covers..which were factory included in the 07 appearance upgrade package.

However prior to 07.. the hood liners didn't have those huge recesses to accomodate the plenum covers..as they weren't offered as factory options at the time..

Being that my GT. is also an 05..I also had to order, the 07 throttle body studs, and nuts for the cover..as my stock 05 studs, were too large..

Rocky my 06 has the hood liner for the plenum cover, but it was built just three days before 07's started production.

Larry.. after all the feedback, from Scott, JR and others, who have the GMS STB.

I'm now convinced, that it will clear both the hood, and plenum cover..

If your concerned over the plenum cover rubbing against the STB.. all you need to do is..lower the cover, by uninstalling the 2 (rear) fuel rail studs, using an 8mm. socket..Then place the cover over the intake, and reinstall the 2 fuel rail studs, followed by installing the throttle body studs..And you're done..

That being said, I believe it's pretty safe to assume..there shouldn't be any fittment issues, to be concerned over..

...well thanks to this thread, I cancelled my FRPP STB order. My vendor though not happy, substituted it with the BMR STB. Anywho, I have a small credit there now, to apply toward .....................................what else..............................more mods.

+1

I'd like to know as well.

Although it seems that lowering the plenum cover will solve fitment issues on a few STB's, I'd rather not touch the plenum cover at all and just bolt-on a STB that will 110% clear the plenum cover and hoodliner without any vehicle mods or additional steps.

Other than the strange development STB..I don't think your going to find a STB, that will clear both the plenum cover and hoodliner without some sort of vehicle mods or additional steps. As the stock GT hood is pretty tight.

But then again, I'm not about to pay $200.00 for a STB bar either..In fact. I refuse to pay anything over $50.00..As far as I'm concerned, no STB is worth that kind of money..
