street traction with twin screw blower
street traction with twin screw blower
those of you with twin screw blower and automatic transmission at about what gear and speed will your car have to be at to not spin with full throttle?my lightning has to be at about 4000 rpm in 2nd gear before i can kick it without spinning.i know its lite in the rear but i was hopeing the mustang wouldnt be so bad.would getting a paxton, procharger or vortech be easier on spinning than the twin screw enough so to buy it over the twinscrew?
Depends on what tire you run and your suspension. With me, on the street, the Nitto 555's 295/45/18's are hopeless 1st and 2nd. With M&H drag radials, they spin only in first from a dead stop or like 15mph or less. Big difference.
If you want to run a typical street tire, and not spin, then the twinscrew is not for you.

Not questioning Paul's input at all, but just adding that although yes he is running a TS blower, he has probably around 100 more hp & tq than the typical TS setup. That would have to make the traction game more difficult than standard setups to some degree.
i was looking at about 425 at rear wheels or a little less.i like the torque the ts has down low but if you cant do anything but spin till you get to say 40 mph its not much use.tried drag radials on my lightning but didnt help but differant vehicle,no weight in rear.
I also have an '04 Lightning. I usually run Nitto 555 295/45 on it and the rear of the Mustang. Both cars will blow them loose pretty easily in first and second. I put some Nitto 555 DRs on the Lightning and the traction is much better, but they wear about twice as fast and feel a little looser in the corners due to the flimsy side walls. But like said, you're going to blow street tires loose pretty easily with a TS, but the instant torque when you need it is worth it.
With my twin screw and 4.10 gears I could downshift from 5th to 4th at 75 mph aggressively and just light the tires up and fishtail badly. Had to let off the gas. I put my 3.55's back in and it tamed it down a bit. I wouldn't trade my twin screw for another. Bottom end torque is just too good and it still pulls to redline!

Sounds frustrating. As an editor of Car and Driver once said, "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow."
