Hey all,
My right rear rotor is going. I am going to take it in to get it looked at to see if they can save it, but if not, was thinking about crossed drilled rotors all around. I know they sell them in sets of 2 or 4 I think, but can I have the stock brakes in the front and crossed drilled in the back? Would I expereince any problems with a different brake set up like this? Why do you want cross drilled rotors?

If I have to get brakes, I might as well upgrade.

Cross drilled brakes are not upgrades. There has been no purpose for cross drilled brakes since the '70s other than the bling factor. In fact they are possibly dangerous under hard use conditions.

If you would like more background into this from people that know a lot more about this than me read this.

it will look weird to have drilled in back but not in front. I'd go slotted all the way around with a pad upgrade. personal preference. the drill holes won't do much unless you run your brakes so hard that they are visibly glowing red and you don't have appropriate pads, but a lot of people like the look.

Yes once you run the cross drilled rotors to that kind or temperature and then they cool off crack in half and falls apart then you try to stop again and die.

I could recite and explain the reasons why this happens so you can read them here or you can read the link I have already provided.

BTW: That's a worse case scenario, but it is much more likely to happen using cross drilled over blank rotors.

fully agree. the first brake upgrade I'd do is pads. with proper pads outgassing/fade will not be a problem. Next I might go with slotted OE size rotors. My understanding is that slotted helps keep the pads clean, the downside may be less friction. I don't even like the look of drilled, but a lot of people do.

Another tid bit of information for your consideration is that the Mustang Grand Am Cup race car uses stock rear rotors with racing pads.
