I know the initial investment is large, but really, the best gain is from a tune and an intake. Save the money and do both the tune and intake together.

I don't know if my experience is typical, but I bought my CAI first and ran with it for a few months (no tune and no problems). It gave a noticeable boost in performance, but if I had to guess it might have been 10 HP or so. Of course, I told my tuner what I had in the car and they (Paul's High Performance) set it up for what I had. The tune made a tremendous difference. Again, if I had to guess, I would say more than 25 HP added and great throttle response after the tune.

I actually did reinstall the factory airbox once, for an experiment. The boost from the tune was still there, but it did feel a little bit slower. But, I'm just talking seat of the pants and +/- 10 HP is a 3% change. That's hard to tell using just your seat. The numbers I am quoting are just wild guesses. I haven't had the car on a dyno.

The aFe CAI has been back in there with the tune for over a year, and the combo works well. Like Bad_Monkeys says having the CAI and tune seems to have been the best set up for me.

I have the stock airbox with a K&N filter and Bamachips 91 Race tune. The difference is phenomal. I am glad I did not get the CAI because it really doesn't need any more power for a daily driver. It is much quicker now with outstanding throttle response.
