I think it would be great if it were available on the Mustang GT. I drive in a lot of traffic, but would occassionally like to shift like with a stick.
Porsche has an excellent example.

You can already shift each and every gear. Put it into 1 and move it up as you feel fit, the same as a manually shifted car but with no clutching.

Ah, if it really were that safe, though. The way I was used to driving sticks, I do the 1-2-3-D shifting by actually letting OFF the gas (heard this is bad). I occasionally find myself taking my left foot in, thinking there is a clutch.

Is it really true that shifting via 1-2-3-D while stepping OFF the gas during shifts is BAD?

You're not going to damage the trans by playing it like a stick. Plenty have gone through this same discussion before, the end result is that there is no trouble to be found from selecting each and every gear and puting your foot into the floor.

This transmission has been found in more vehicles than in just the Mustang, its pretty tough.

If there was an issue with it, Im sure my friend, former Forman of Serramonte Ford's Service Department would have warned against me doing it. He's known as one of the best mechanics in the Bay Area.

And no, letting off the gas while the auto shifts isnt bad. Case and Point: You dont take your foot of the gas while drag racing an autotrans vehicle.

On a side note... why has JohnnyT never learned how to type correctly?
