What exactly do the pulleys do?

 

slow down the accessorys (ac, alternator, water pump) in doing so uses less HP to turn them and gives you 5-10 hp depending on the application.... btw manufactures of underdrive puulies will sometimes make claims of 20+ hp but with my experiance on dyno's they maybe give you 5rw hp
