Steeda UDP Kit : Install Cost??
I'm considering the Steeda UPD's as a future modification, but wanted to get a little information first. I've checked out the installation instructions, and although it really doesn't seem that difficult, UDP's have always seemed to be a PITA to install IMO. Is it relatively easy to break the bolts loose on the Mustang, or is it one of those cars where you need a 4-foot breaker bar to ge the crank pulley off?
If I decide that I do want the UDP's, but don't want to deal with the installation headaches, what's it going to run me for an install at a shop? I can't see a shop taking longer than an hour to install them, does that sound about right?
Any insight into pulley installation would be appreciated!

2 beers and a few cigarettes. You can do this yourself. remove 5 bolts, and rent a pulley puller from your local auto store - give it about 30 minutes and your done. If not, i cant see more than 100 to intall them.

Are the 5 bolts that you need to remove easy to get to? I have bad memories from doing the crank pulley on my 350Z... there was no room at all to maneuver the tools, and we had to use a HUGE breaker bar to even get the thing loose, and after we got the underdrive pulley on, the bolt didn't want to go back in. It was just overall a bad experience as far as installations go...

takes longer to manuver the fan and shroud out then it does to swap the pullies. Ask around with some friends and do it in the driveway. I just higly recommend you get/rent an actuall no **** harmonic dampner intall tool. Do not use the bolt/washer they supply. To many people mess up the crank threads. I know cause I did it. I've done numerous pullies and engine work. Save the headache and get the right tool for the job.

We charge 95 to install these. They're a PITA if you don't have a puller. I reccommend renting the puller, as mentioned above and taking a stab at it yourself!

2 fan shroud bolts, 4 water pump pulley bolts, 1 harmonic balancer bolt, and replace 1 water pump bolt. Very easy. But if you must pau someone I wouldn't pay more than $100.00 any more than that and your getting ripped.

The puller I "borrowed" fit w/o having to remove a fan or shroud, or any of that stuff. The only thing I removed was the CAI tube. Yes it takes a pretty stout breaker bar. The one I used to get the crank bolt out was less than 3' long. Actually, I plan to do it again this w/e, as I didn't use enough RTV in the key way, and have a tiny oil leak.

Use an impact gun with sufficient torque on the harmonic balancer bolt and it will come off with little problem.
Also, don't forget to get a replacement harmonic balancer bolt from Ford! Don't reuse the original!

Wow, after looking at my pics, I've had em on for almost 2 years. Dang time flies when your having fun
Just remember to change the bolt on the alternator, or whizz off the end of it, but changing it is suggested. The kit should come with a replacement.
And if you take the cooling fan out to do this, just remember to plug the fan back in on install
Also losen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the belt, will make it easier.
