Still didn't hear, good or bad , on STEEDA's axle back mufflers .
I liked the small package , these would really hind from view .
But its all about performance gains and being to loud .

If I am not mistaken they are the same as bassani or were. They may have changed and are now being made by magnaflow. Personally I would go with magnaflow they put out really good quality stuff.

I got 'em! The Steeda axle back system is LOUDER than MagnaFlows. I don't want anything any louder. I wouldn't expect much, if any, performance gain.

The Steeda guys at PRI told me that Borla makes the parts.

Roger - How the sound level at highway cruising speed ?
The exhaust must look clean from the rear with the Steeda mufflers , also with the big 4in tips .

I put a borla cat back system on my 02 Bird. It was louder but that's all I can say. Instead of the low rumbly V8 sound it sounded more like a 6. That low rumble is what I'm after at any decible.

The Steeda stuff fits real well and is to their usual excellent quality. Sounds real good to.

I have the Bassani on my car and it seems to have a little deeper rumble.

As for performance, I have run one on a dyno yet but again, as for Steeda, they usually do not sell a product unless there is real gains. I will have a sound clip of my car ont he dyno next week. e-mail me if you want it.

2000 RPM in 5th gear is the worst. Going up hills is pretty noisey - bad drone! Crusing on the flat is bearable.

Roger,
Thanks for the honest feedback I believe the "straight-thru" type of system is more prone to drone than the chambered type. If and when I change, I think I'll go with JBA.

If I go with a new exhaust, it will have to be from the header back and have atleast 10hp gains. So far, I think that JBA is getting there with their header and such.

Actually chambered mufflers drone more then straight through design mufflers.

This is because chambered mufflers are using an older sound reflection technology.

They reduce sound by reflecting the soundwaves through a series of chambers and baffle in order to modify the length of the soundwave.

While soundwaves are being bounced, many of them end up boing bounced back inside the vehicle creating the "drone"

Straight through mufflers on the other hand, are able to reduce drone because they send the sound out the back of the car because there is nothing to deflect the sound waves, only to absorb them.

I thought MagnaPacks were a straight-through design and Magnaflows a chambered-design? From what I've read, the MagnaPacks drone is worse than the Magnaflows.

I tried to do a sound clip on a tape recorder last month but it didn't turn out very well.

I'll try to do something better this weekend.
