Springs and Struts and Sway Bars, Oh My!
Hi all,
I'm going into research mode on some upgrades for the '06 GT Conv and need some help sifting through the options. From what I can gather, I basically have four options for suspension mods: Ford Performance, Steeda, Roush, and Saleen. Trouble is, I don't know which option is more respected, better performing, etc.
Does anyone know who builds the Ford Perf equipment? I thought I had seen at one time that it's Steeda stuff. Exactly the same Steeda equip that's available aftermarket? I'm kind of intrigued by the Steeda Ultralight springs. Are they the same as the Ford Perf springs?
The Roush stuff is a bit confusing. They have lowering springs as well as a "standard" option, but they recommend not using their standard springs on a lowered car. Does that mean the standard spring doesn't lower the car? They include the standard spring as a component in their suspension kit. I just don't believe that the kit doesn't lower the car at all.
The Saleen kit is priced very well. $800 for springs, struts, shocks, and a front sway bar. But it looks to use the stock strut caps, which are supposedly junk. Anyone have any feedback on the Saleen stuff?
Anyway, just wanting to try and make the best decision I can on suspension stuff. I started with the intention of just doing springs, but I will at least also do struts and upgrade the strut caps/bearings, because changing out strut springs is such a pain. I wouldn't want to do it twice if I can arrange not to.
Thanks for your feedback!
Chris

If you're not going to the track, the FRPP setup is hard to beat. You can just do the springs/damper kit and add the other stuff later so you don't have to pull it apart again. If you look hard in the for sale forum there are a few sets of the dampers in there for under 300, and you can pick up the springs cheaply. Getting the re-valved struts for <3-400 more is probably the least expensive way to 'properly' lower the car.
You can even do those dampers and the Steeda ultralites. From what I have seen, the ultralites provide a slightly softer ride.

Chris, I know who'll be driving the car everyday. Get the Ultralites, she'll appreciate it.

I think I just talked myself into a decision
I'm not to worried about the caps myself, seems like a lot of $$, and the ultralites are not that extreme a drop. Most complaints seem to come from the Eibach pros or lower. And with new struts you're opperating in the proper range of travel for them.

Eibach springs are the FRPP springs unless you get their more extreme stuff. You can get more sophisticated adjustable shocks, but most people don't need it. I'd say FRPP dampers/Steeda Ultralites. Bilstein just came out with a set of non-adj dampers but I don't know what the prices/details are.

You didn't mention what price range you were shooting for with this upgrade...
The FRPP Stg. 3 kit is hard to beat for $1100.. the springs lower the car about 1.5", dampers/shocks and front & rear sway bars.. I would think the sway bars would be a real plus... that's a lot of suspension for the price.
I have FRPP struts/shocks ($381) with a Ground Control Coil-over Conversion Kit with Eibach Sports Springs ($433) for a total of ($814 shipped) for the parts. I'm sure I would be using the FRPP Stg 3 set up if it had been on the market when I did my mods.
I would recommend a good set of LCA's, LCA relocation bracket, an adj. UCA and an adj. Panhard Bar ($553 shipped). I'm very happy with my BMR parts.
