Spoiler Delete=Performance or Cosmetic?
I wonder exactly how much extra drag is produced by the spoilers. The more downforce it produces, the more drag it produces, correct? Not saying that the spoilers are good enough for NASCAR or anything, but I'm sure they do produce at least SOME downforce while at highway speeds.
It would be interesting to see how the car handles with/without it at say Autobahn speeds...120mph. I've been at 130 for about 3 miles on the interstate one night around 3am in the middle of nowhere. I have a spoiler, and man was that car stable at speed. It felt just as solid as 70mph. I wonder if I would say the same without the spoiler.

I can vouch for it, very stable

But since I installed my chin spoiler and ducktail, I cant beat my best time at the strip.
13.32 @ 105.45
And that was my 1st time with the stang on the strip.
then I went a month later and couldnt get or beat it after install.
Is it me or coincidence, lol.

(sorry, got parentheses happy on this post... )
well I can say that I have noticed a difference in acceleration from 100-140 in 4th. It gets there much quicker. 1/4 mile wasnt effected. Very stable to me without spoiler. Plus you can see much better out the rear view.
i ordered mine with the delete option. i had the intention of getting a ducktail. but, after seeing it without a spoiler, i like it and i think i will just leave it as it is for a while.
I ordered my car without the spoiler and I'm really glad I did. I had a '98 Cobra coupe previously and really got tired of cleaning under the rear spoiler. I got used to the spoiler delete look when the Bullitt Mustang came out in '01, and I tend to agree that the spoiler detracts from the great lines of the new bodystyle. Less is more for me.
Another thing I like about not having a spoiler is being a little different becuase the majority of Mustangs I see have one.

I probably mis-spoken. It would have been close. My Steath did have a slight turbo-lag... The instant power from the Stang's V8 across the power bands would definitely win... Yes, I was drooling too. Even today, they still look good. This should probably be a separate thread...lol
The difference in performance due to weight savings in so miniscule it doesn't count... Me eating a 48oz steak before heading to the track will have more of a negative effect.... I love the spoiler delete though... I didn't have the option in Canada in '05 but I will probably pull it this winter
i saw a 07 V6 yesterday with a different factory spoiler. it was much smaller and flat against the trunk. like a mini roush or something. i like it much better than mine. i wonder if that one will cover up the holes from mine or if it uses them to mount up. next time i see one i'll post a pic. anybody with an 07 that has this spoiler?
My spoiler is huge! I bought it purely for looks. I haven't noticed any difference in handling or anything else at highway speeds up to 145MPH. I would imagine it slows me down a bit but I'm not to worried about that.
At low speeds I noticed the "approving looks meter" was off the scale.

Hey sound wave, the first Alloy I've seen on the road around here happened to be yours!(Saw it today around 5:00PM on S. King/Keeaumoku) Definitely looks and sounds good with spoiler delete, exhaust and the 1st gen (red) GT badges.
Anyways for what it's worth, the FR500C's don't have spoilers and they seem to do just fine. IMO, if the factory spoiler provided useful downforce, Ford would have kept it on for racing in Grand Am but, they didn't.

how did you know that was my car? but yeah, i was heading to get my haircut. i am happy with the way the 65 gt side emblems look. nice, but not too flashy.
a 3500+ lb street car does not need any downforce.
The spoiler creates much more detrimental drag than any downforce. It would havean affect on the drag coefficient of the vehicle. Parasitic drag is the biggest horsepower eater a street car will encounter.
