For those that chose the spoiler delete option, did you do it for performance or cosmetic reasons? Also, anyone know exactly how much the stock spoiler helps handling, and if it can affect gas mileage?

For what ever reason you would delete the spoiler, it is only cosmetic, save for the 3 pounds or so you lose. It has no effect at all on anything.

yep. Makes it easier to wash and wax w/o the spoiler. plus, it looks like crap.

Probably no real seat of the pants improvement, but you will reduce deadweight a few pounds and reduce drag a touch for maybe a tenth or two mileage improvement (or perhaps an mph or two top end :-).

Aesthetics are personal, of course, but I think it looks pretty cheesy and generic, and only detracts from the Stang's otherwise excellent basic lines.

If I could do it over again, I would have went spoiler delete FOR SURE. That way, I could be doing any ducktail spoiler I want. Most of the ones I want (CDC, StreetScene) don't cover the factory holes left from the factory spoiler...... sucks.

I got the spoiler delete purely for cosmetic reasons; I felt it ruined the lines of the car. Someone at work told me that he'd read an article about how spoilers like that actually increased drag without any aerodynamic benefit, but I don't know personally.

It does make me laugh, tho, when I see a front wheel drive tuner with a spoiler or wing on the back........

The only way it could increase drag is by increasing downforce. It probably doesn't do much of either but until someone can produce wind tunnel results, any "opinions" on the subject are pure conjecture.

next time at the track i'm going to test and see if it makes any difference on 1/4mile times. i know the 99-02 mustangs had a spoiler that when removed gained a full tenth of a second due to unwanted drag. i tried to take mine off a few months ago but it must be glued along with being bolted. it was stuck on there tight! i hate that spoiler.... it looks stupid on this car.

Neutral can also cause drag, think of wooden two by four.
Upforce can also cause drag, but there have been no reports of the rear end lifting at high speed.

I think of it as an ugly two by four.

I like the factory spoiler. It completes the retro look of the car as designed- 1969ish I had a 1992 Dodge Stealth RT Twin Turbo with a functional rear spoiler. I'm not going to get into the laws of physics, but the spoiler does add some performance. Nothing you or I would ever notice or be able to measure, but it's there... more so then the lack of it due to weight HOWEVER, I agree that it is mostly appearance, hence, my first comment. BTW the Stealth and the Stang both have 300 hps, but the stang would blow it away. It was a nice car though- same as the 3000GT...

The twin turbo was more like 320HP.

I like the rear spoiler. I do plan on getting a ducktail as I like those better but until I have the cash, I would rather have a spoiler on there than no spoiler. Without the spoiler the rear end just looks a bit bare to me.

No spoiler because I knew I wanted a ducktail.

Only time that spoiler could possibly help is 120+ on the autobahn, and even then I doubt it.

I took the spoiler off my 96GT. Besides liking the clean look, I also found it slightly improved my rear visibility.

I ordered mine with a spoiler delete because I don't like spoilers. A duck-tail might not be bad, but I think they look much better with no spoilers at all.

Somehow I doubt that the spoiler really does much.
