<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(don_w @ February 20, 2006, 4:03 PM) Quoted post</div><div class='quotemain'>The NHRA rule book looks like it only allows 1-5/8" for a full cage (ref reg 4:11). For a 6-pt roll bar, it specifies 1-3/4", except for the cross-bar behind the shoulders (ref reg 4:10). The difference between Chromoly and mild steel appears to only effect the wall thickness of the tubing, not the dia of the tubing. Heck, maybe they changed it for 2006... I only have the 2005 rule book.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Blazing Saddles @ February 20, 2006, 4:42 PM) Quoted post</div><div class='quotemain'>Sorry to rain on your parade David but there seems to be some mis-interpretation of the rules here. 6 & 8 point bars must be 1 3/4" tubing for the main hoop and down bars whether or not it's chromoly. 10 points or more can be 1 5/8".
Yup... that's what I thought, too.

I guess I should have paid attention to what cage he had, I assumed the full cage. He would then be subject to the rules of a roll bar on page 1

Is it safe to assume that the rules are the same from coast to coast??

If the track follows IHRA rules, yes

There darn sure is a lot of parades around here lately Well, what can I say. If I ever fail tech, I get a new cage-free. Time is of the essence right now!

Most of them follow NHRA rules.

I think for the most part, IHRA and NHRA rules are almost the same when it comes to general rules, no? What's the big difference?

No idea... since the IHRA basically doesn't exist in the western 2/3 of the country, I've never even seen their rules. But, I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of tracks will follow NHRA rules.

Uh, there is one about 14 miles from my house Dave. The owner is like a concours Chevy lover, he owns a classic car shop. He and his tech only want to look at your car in the tech lane if it is a 62-72 Chevy that looks like it came from the factory. There are some rednecks up here that have made a dune buggy-slash S-10 with a blown small block fueled by nitromethane, they all wear big smith overalls and have mullets. I run for the pits when they make a pass.

I don't want anything to do with people wearing overalls and have mullets! Makes me think of Zeek and him saying, "Bring out the gimp."

Mullets are always good for a big laugh. You should see how many there are at the car shows in western MA.
