Hey guys,

I've been contacted by quite a few of you now and even one of you with the WMS kit. My kit should be in Wednesday or Thursday so I haven't gotten a chance to personally go over the install but from what I hear there are two things kinda big to do.

The first is you have to move the coolant tank somehow, like I said I'm waiting to fully look this over..

The Second is the one I'm concerned with most, you have to Cut and extend your MAF wiring. Can anyone confirm this for me? I hate to cut anything on a new car and it will make it a great deal harder to swap these kits out to go in for warrenty work if they see something hacked into the factory harness.

I was just wanting someone else to confirm this, does WMS have installation instructions on their site?

Thanks, Doug

Well..here we go...issues.

I have tracked down and untaped MAF harnesses in the past to re-route and and help extend the stock length.

How much we talking here, a few inches in length?

as for the coolant tank. People should look, this was a given that coolant lines would have to be undone.

I was going to call them right now check on shipping, but I have a feeling their line is currently busy....

UPDATE: COOLANT TANK RELOCATE AND MAF WIRING:

From: "Shannon Wall" <fastford@wmsracing.com> View Contact Details

Hey Mike,

The coolant tank is easy to move, all the brackets & hoses are included
in the kit.

The maf wires do need to be extended, we provide wire and connectors
(very good quality crimp / heat shrink) to do this. When developing
the kit this was one of our concerns as many people seem to be
terrified with wiring but no one has had a problem with it to date.
If you wanted to swap the kit out for warranty you would not remove the
wiring but the extension could be easily tucked up inside the wire
loom, don't think anyone would find this unless they were looking for
it.

We don't have instructions on the site, I'll see if I can get a copy up
after those pictures...

Road trip indeed

OK...spoke to Shannon a few minutes ago. As read above, thats what I got for the MAF as well. Forgot to ask how much length, but I think I could make the stocker work...theres always a way, and a few inches to gain...we'll see.
I just got done making a few harnesses,& running them inside the stock harnesses for EGT,OIL Press, and Water Temp...GRR!! wish I knew this 2 days ago...lol D@mn..

As for the AIR kits. I asked for mine to be devided, and shipped seperately when the ram air box is done, some time next week. I will be paying slightly more for the shipping due to two deliveries, but thats the only way I could get a intake kit here this week..I hope in time.

This is why I dont like high pressure deadlines and first purchasing before the product has been used and tested a little...I think we would have had just as much success if we had waited 2or 3 weeks fore a group buy, after the complete product was released!!!

What "high pressure"? This is a casual Q&A of, yes, a product nobody on this forum has yet, however, I don't feel there is an atmosphere of high pressure and I'm sorry you feel pressured that way. There is no full court press here. Doug and Brent expect to have their testing done with plenty of time left before the deadline.

When WMS originally set up this deadline they expected to have final pics and their #s from testing (ram) posted by the end of last week with shipping proceeding the same time. This would've given about 2 weeks for people to decide and the time needed for those who have ordered to receive theirs and also report back.

If you'd like and it will make it helpful for everyone I can ask to extend the deadline. Would just after labor day be fair? Sept. 9th?

EDIT: Just read Brent's(BRENSPEED) post in the GP tuner sticky thread and he has his WMS unit and will have the results of his testing posted on Monday 8-29. Which is only 2 days before the deadline so what do you guys think is a fair date for deadline extension?

If you could get the deadline move to just after labor day I think that should be enough time for everyone to make up there minds.

I agree

This would benefit us as well as the merchants. Once Bama, WMS and Brenspeed have posted their testing results and pictures, assuming positive feedback, it would lead to more sales for them.

Would the extension only apply to the WMS purchase or would it apply to the Bama group buy as well? I don't think that Brenspeed specified a time frame.

I'll speak with Shannon/WMS on extending the deadline. Agreed, all benefit.. customers and vendors alike. I'll ask for 9-9-05 and report back. This would be just for this WMS GP. I think Doug/Bama has certain factors he needs to take into consideration which is why he set 8-31-05 as his deadline as opposed to the WMS one which was more like 'hey what do you think? ok sounds good' type of deal .

Hey Mike,

yes that would be fine to extend the deadline. Looks like we won't
have the good pictures done until early next week.

Regarding the wire cutting/crimping issue: I talked to Shannon at WMS when I ordered, then called a couple of other companies I know of that do "plug and play" wiring for cars. There may not be an appropriate coupler to make an extension, but a couple of vendors are now working on it: Caspers Electronics, and FullThottle Speed [Mike Licht]. I know of and respect both of these companies from my dealings with the Turbo Buick community and weblists [t6p.com and gnttype.com].

I took some pictures of mine and sent them around, so hopefully soon, those who don't like to cut wires under the hood [like me!] will have another option.

What kind of warranty issues could you run into by messing with the MAF wiring?

Would this intake cause the CEL to show?

If you disconnect the battery before you work on the wiring, and you do the wiring properly, there should be no problems with extending the wiring. Now, installing the CAI may be a different issue.

An extension would make this system 100x more user friendly.

You still have to relocate the overflow...but at least you don't have to cut any stock wiring harness'
