SLP LM's Sound problems :(
So i did lots of research before i bought them(i listened to 20+ clips and videos and was very impressed) and i've installed a few exhaust systems(on my 84 and a friends 94). Now my problem is, they dont sound like i've heard them. When i take off(its a manual) and the revs drop from around 800-1500 it sounds like a boat gurgling. There is ALOT of backflow and pops and when i get on it, it doesn't sound like a smooth roar going up in volume but rather a gurgly and popping farting sound.
Ok, so i double checked all my connections and everything is installed tightly. I hear no ticking from an exhaust leak. When i installed them, there was no provision for the "Notch" on the over the axle tube to go into the pipes they gave me so i pushed them up as far as possible and then tightened down the clamps properly(i did NOT have problems with the clamps not staying tight due to that resistance thing where some had to loosen the H-pipe). And the Tips were put on till they stuck out of the bumper about a half an inch. The Zig Zag pattern on the tips came together till there was literally about - that much space left(i did not want to break the clamp).
All clamps were placed about an 1/8-1/4 of an inch from the edge of the pipe being clamped as i'm accustomed to doing.
this is all the info i can think of. Is everyone else experiencing this and it's just not coming through recordings? Did i install wrong? or forbid it...my parts defective?
I Just really want the sound to come in smoother during acceleration and not pop as much under hard throttle. but if thats the product i'm stuck with it.

no its the stock H-pipe. and why would i need resonators? i mean, everyone else's loudmouths seem to sound perfect. i think this is a customer malfunction or possibly a product failure but i need input

How many miles do you have on them? I had a used set myself at one time, so they were already seasoned, but it took a few hundred miles for the computer to recalibrate and smooth it out some more.
I eventually went with Flowmasters, as the SLP LM's were a bit too loud and also never really got rid of that put-put redneck truck sound.

i wouldn't think that they would have to settle in....nor would the computer have to recalibrate? Just seems like unnecessary things for a resonator type exhaust. Mufflers i've heard had to do that, but not pipes. Yea they are brand new.
I was gonna get the flowmasters but the volume and grunt of the LM's i had heard was way better. How are the flows in volume compared too? and do they sound like old school american thunder systems? I've heard a few clips and wasn't too impressed.

I had the LMs for awhile. Keep in mind that a lot of the clips your hearing are NOT on stock systems. I know that when I take my car to the dealership and take my CAI and tunes out and return to stock, the SLPs sound totally different, and in my opinion bad. With my Bamachips Race tune in, they sound mean. I'm still searching for an exhaust combo I like, IMO SLPs were great but I wanted it louder at idle, Flows.... kinda sound crappy to me. Just the 05+ ones though. Hope that helps...

wow, yea i remember when we chipped my friends 94 his exhaust sounded wayyyyy smoother. Didn't realize at the moment that a cpu recalibration would in fact change the pulses.....and thus changing the tone.
Aggg, now i gotta debate on spoiler and stripes vs a handtuner....need to get paid more!
thanks guys, I would appreciate any other LM owners to ding in here with opinions

I'm tellin you right now, everyone on here will tell ou that a CAI and tuner is the first thing you should do. Until I did it I was like whatever, but now I completly agree. Throttle response, exhuast tone, eveything gets 10 times better. I've got the C&L + X2 by bamachips, best mod I've done so far. Good Luck!

thanks guys, i really appreciate all the input. Looks like a tune may be the ticket, and yes i notice that when they do warm up they become more enjoyable. I had a nice run today that i enjoyed my sound. I do enjoy being able to rev at other stangs with their windows up and them hearing me.
thanks again,

I also learned that clips and videos can only do so much....
No way to fully get the sound experience unless in person.....
I had Corsas on the stang and recently put on an offroad Prochamber.....
Ummm LOUD - really F - ing loud
took some videos and even though you get SOME indication of the change in note from the stock pipe, you can NOT fully appreciate how obnoxious the car became from the vids......
Just hard to make your choice without trial and error
(my result? Prochamber came right off the next week...)
