Slow from line with Bama 87 Performance Tune?

Hey everyone,

This last weekend I installed the C&L Racer Intake and loaded the Bama 87 Performance Tune.

Now don't get me wrong the tune improved a number of things and really wakes the car up after 3Kor so RPMS and the shifting is very firm. But what I notice is that there seems like hardly any power from a dead stop. It kinda seems like the car doesn't know what to do if you nail it from a dead stop. But once you get to 3K RPMS it takes off like a bat out of hell!

Is this just the way the performance tune is? I am thinking about running the 91 Octane Torque or Performance Tune next.

Was I expecting too much from the performance tune?

To me there is a huge difference between the 87 and 93 tune. I ran the 93 torque tune for the longest time and loved it. Since the gas prices have gone up I've been running the 87 performance tune and can really tell the difference. If you have 93 octanes in your area then I suggest you run that tune if you can afford the fuel!

Do you have the ftlat spot off the line with the 87 performance tune?

Yeah then it picks up after 3K or so... not with the 93 torque tune though.

same thing for me and my tune, pretty **** flat after the last few flashes of the ECU but its not an internet tune. I have been able to see that timing is just one aspect of the flat spot.

the performance tune is not for dead stop starts.

if you want that you will have to use his torque tune. you will notice that when you hit it hard from a dead stop.

ask him to swap out your performance 87 for a torque 87. Im thinking of doing that myself.

Doug does not make an 87 torque tune. He told me so yesterday. I am going to run the 87 gas out and fill up with some 91 and try the perfomance and torque 91 tunes.

From what I just heard from my tuner... (this may not be your situation but its mine)

When Im launching off the line at the track I am placing a relatively high load on the engine at a low rpm, timing needs to be adjusted for this type of instance but usually at the cost of shorter long term reliability. The trick is to find the happy medium and my route is to put some timing back into it for the high load low rpm instance and install a higher stall torque converter, preferably 2600-3000.

When a data logging device reads that the degrees of advance in the timing is ~16380 this is in fact a big fat 0. I also see that same 16380 turn into 0 and then 1 and then so on and so forth. Basically, power isnt going to be made the way it should and thats why I am not leaving the line as hard as it should.

Im pretty sure that that Torque Tune you speak of is based on this and keeps timing in it down low when you go WOT.

Also, I see that the engine feels the same upon colder startups and what do you know... the timing reads ~16380 degrees...

Tung, are you running the Racer on a stock motor?

Uhh, Doug gave me an 87 Torque Tune...it was last year around December. He didn't initially offer it to me, but I asked for it and that's what he emailed me, along with 91 Torque and Performance (no 93 in AZ).

The tuner software can give the tune any file name you want it to. I don't really mind what Doug called it, as long as my A/F is corrected and I don't throw a code (which I haven't), that's what I use the 87 for. When I want to splurge and burn some rubber, I'll load the 91.

Splurge is sorta spontaneous. Burning off an entire tank of 87 to fill with 91 is sorta, planned.

well, let us know how the 91 torque is for you.

im running a 92 torque now and under WOT from a dead start it shifts at the red line.

I loaded up about twenty bucks of 91. There is definitely a difference from the 87. It doesn't bog down as much from a stop. The 91 torque is what I like the most. It has nice power from a stop. I will drive with it for awhile. To tell you guys the truth, I think the 87 performance tune pulls harder then the 91 performance tune. With the 87 I was chirping 2nd and 3rd with ease. With the 91 It takes more effort? I don;t know whats up with that.

I still think the Racer Kit is too much air flow. I may need to get the street version instead. I probably should have ordede the street version from the berginning. I just thought the plastic tubing was a better Idea. I wasn't paying attention to the larger 93mm meter.

Anyone want to consider a trade?
