Should my ceramic coated headers look like this?

I've had these MAC longtubes for a couple years now and they are starting to worry me. I'm also hearing a bit of an exhaust leak where the coating has flaked off at the collector. Anyone else have ceramic coated headers that look like this?

yea, the coating failed. depending on who coated them, they might have a lifetime warranty. youd have to pull them off and ship them back

I agree with Anthony, I would see if BBK is going to cover the damage. This is the exact reason people spend more to get ceramic, to prevent decay.

Good luck to you...

My Kooks headers are 4 years old and look brand new compared to those.

OP,

Did you have header wrap on those headers before?

You have to consider the location. I'm originally from Buffalo, NY and my stuff would rust apart sitting in the garage once it was exposed to road salt.

If you've never experienced that kind of rust, you CANNOT get your head around just how destructive it is. It's one of the main reasons I now live where I do. My brother still lives there and his '04 summer car has more rust than my '85 Ranger which I drive year round.

I didn't want to get coated because this could happen, so I got OBXs. My OBXs look darker than when they were new, but no rust on them, and I live in FL, where it's humid and it rains 8 out of the 12 months of the year, or so it seems.

Welp that says it all to me. Mac = Junk.

I have looked at their stuff for years but never bought it because it looks like poor quality. I had a set of ceramic Ford Motorsport headers on my '93 Stang for over 16 years and the coating maybe dulled just a little. I really think it pays to spend a little more money up front to get the good stuff. Man I bet that had to be a real mother to install those too! I'd be pissed! Sorry to see it.

May not be Mac's falt. I have a set of Jet coated headers for my 66 200 ci. they are rusting too, less than 100 miles in two years. I have to pull them and send them to be recoated. PITA to get the on and off but I paid for ceramic for long life not rust.
