shift handle extenstion
Not sure this belongs here, but I figure you performance folks could help me out. Been searching/reading about short shifters (Hurst, Pro 50, B/M, etc), and I think that's a little too much for me. I'm happy with my stock 5 speed, but I would like the arm to be a bit taller, and I would like a colored ball to match my interior. I've read that the thread pattern is 1/2 x 20, and Ive seen some sites with choices (even I guy on another board that might make one out of billard *****- #10 for me).
My questions is, how do I get my stock shifter taller, and be able to add an aftermarket ball?

you can make an extension

That's a good idea, what, just get a male/female connector at a hardware store?

If it needs to be 1/2-20 on both ends, I have the taps and dies to do it. I can make one out of stainless steel. Just take a rod, put threads on the outside on 1 end and threads on the inside on the other. Confirm what size threads you need and tell me overall length and how long you want the threads to be.
I'm not going to make any promises, nor am I going to make more of these. I don't have any business aspirations to make a ton of these, unless you wanted like 10 of em.
Something like this

It's up to you how much taller you want it. Personally I wish I could cut mine down 2 inches.
I need you to tell me
1) what the correct thread sizes are, I'm not going to waste my time making the wrong size and have you tell me it doesn't fit
2) how much longer you want the extension to be. Is it 2 or 3 inches?
Keep in mind this might mess up your shifter boot and it might not be able to fit over the extension depending on how much longer you make it. Would be cool if you covered shipping.

Gotta respectfully disagree here mate The stock threads are 12Mx1.25. A 1/2-20 will work, but it's not an exact fit

No, thank you!! I have seen both measurements, and I just thought that one was metric and the other english. I have an '06 if that matters???
Anybody confirm this??? Now I've found some pretty cool shift ***** on the internet, so I want to make sure I look at the correct thread size!!!

Dustindu4, I guess I need to confirm the thread size!! And when we do it, let's make it 2". I've got a custom shift boot and it looks like I have plenty of extra material. YES I will send you a check for shipping!!

If it were me, I would take the **** to a hardware store and test fit bolts with the two thread sizes to know for sure. But, then again, I'm **** retentive.

Yup, did it. Found a 1/2, but it was like a 13, so the threads were to far apart. I put in a m12 X 1.25, no problems!!!!! Check out these *****........

From my research this week, I think Dustin's way seems to be the only way to do this (without replacing the entire shifter). I found a thread on another board with this pix
[attachmentid=46586] - this is a hurst shaft.
and it appears like there is no way to bolt on any type of adapter???? I will try Dustin's idea and hope it works, if not - full Hurst short shifter goes on the future mods list.
