SCT XCAL 2 intructions
#2
I just bought the xct2 & the instructions are a joke - you dont need them. just plug and play - the unit will walk you through the steps. it's very easy anyone can do it and not make a mistake.
step one- key out
step two plug unit in
step three read what unit says - turn key to on position but do not start.
step four - load desired tune. then usnit will tell you what to do from there.
there's nothing to it.

I didn't pull any relays. I DID make sure the car was cool so the fan would not come on. The whole deal with the relays is that during reflash, you need higher voltages to write flash memory than to read it, so you want to make sure there are no current draws on the system that can cause the battery to dip below the critical write voltage levels.
From what I have heard, this was a potential problem on some older cars, but not the 05 Mustang.
I would have to guess that the flash memory used in the Spanish Oak processor is written to at lower voltages than 12 volts, so it is not as sensitive to voltage drops (just as long as they are within the lower level on the voltage regulators built in the CPU.

Missed the step about pulling the fuses for the fans and fuel pump.

For the 2005 & 6 models you do not have to pull the fuses.

From SCT's web site . . . .
Q: I recieved My Xcal2 today. In the instructions it states Disconnect the Fuel pump and fan Fuses....Where are those located exactly and what do they look like?
A: This depends on what model/year vehicle you own. The Fuel pump and fan fuses are usually listed in your owners manual and also inside the fusepanel cover. Pulling the fuses is necessary on all 96-97 vehicles, but may not be necessary in other years (although we do recommend it). We recommend it because it prevents battery drain during flashing, which may cause problems if your battery is low.

I didn't pull any fuses or anything either when I installed my tune. Just made sure the radio was off and the climate selector **** was in the off position. Never any problems.

Don't mind me . . . although SCT does recommend it for all vehicles . . . regardless of year . . . per their web site FAQs . . . don't worry about the fans or fuel pump kicking on when you least expect it . . . flash away .

I noticed too, that during the flash, without the fuses pulled, the message center complained about fuel level low and some other stuff. I assumed they were because I didnt pull the fuses. It was fine though after the flash was completed. No problems. Just a FYI...

Thanks for the fuse input. Anyone have thoughts on whether or not to disconnect the battery, as well? Is a disconnect something people have been doing for the "re-learn" the Spanish Oak goes thru? Or can this be skipped also?

It was a no-brainer to me. Instructions say to pull the fuses, so I did. It took me less time to pull the fuses than it would have taken for me to call Brenspeed or look up SCT's website for FAQ.
I pulled my fuses and had the same messages.
