The inlcuded Saleen instructions were accurate. However, the small B&W pics (hard to see) and 4 pages of instructions made it more confusing than it really was.

When you see the attached pics, it makes sense on where the shift block goes (and it's orientation) and how everything attaches.

Here's some tips I gathered here on TMS (not in the supplied instructions) that helped me along;

* Lube both plastic bushings (outer) before inserting them into the Saleen block.
* Lube the Saleen silver bushing (outer) before inserting it into the shifter barrel.
* Lube the shank of the shift linkage stud pin before inserting it through the plastic bushings (in the Saleen block).
* Loctite the OEM nut that goes on the shift linkage stud pin. Use caution when tightening this nut, DO NOT OVER TORQUE IT! I only brought the nut down until it made contact with the plastic bushing, then gave it an additional 1/8 turn. If you tighten this nut too much, it'll make shifting (into the gates) very difficult.
* Let the Loctite dry before any extended shifting drive.

Chris- I like it alot! It definately shortened the throw (as you see in my vid clip) and shifting into the gates feels a bit firmer, but nothing like what others have described when they inadvertently tightened down that nut too hard. It's a good bang for the buck!

That is what happens when you have only have 271 miles on it and the rest of the time it sits in the garage wrapped like a present.

 

Nice write up. 94Tbird just installed mine the other day and I love. Much better feel than stock and you really can get through the gears quicker.

Agreed. I bought mine when they were just $26, and I easily would pay the new price for this mod. It is by far the most cost-effective mod you can install.

 

I remember when my car was newer than yours. That trip to Michigan last week gave me a rock chip in the windshield and some idoit in an Exterra fell asleep (or something) and went of the road to give me a rock chip on the front driver fender on the way back!

When ordering from them, they don't give you a shipping price until it ships. Mine ended up costing $9.26 for shipping (USPS Priority Mail) and handling.

 

Be careful when ordering from Saleen if it goes ground via FedEx, you'll have to be there to sign for it, they won't drop it off, or let you sign the slip and leave it for them. I had to call Saleen and have it sent to work instead of home, and they fought me on that.

It is a great mod though, and I paid both the old $26 price, and now the new $45 price. just too bad I couldn't get it off of the old car after the accident, but it is definitely worth the price. My car will be here next week, and that and many other mods are sitting in the garage waiting.

 

Now that you mentioned it... mine did come via FedEx Ground.

And yes, you have to sign for the package.

I haven't driven it since the 4th, but during my short test drive, I liked it.

I can't compare this to either the Tri-Ax or the Hurst because I haven't driven in a GT with either.

All I can say is, if you just want to shorten the shift throw, this $50 kit is hard to beat.

 

Great pics and write up! If you had to guess, what would you say the torque on the nut is? Want to avoid overtightening.
