Hi Folks,

I've been lurking for a while and finally have something to share with the group. I've been working on installing a Saleen blower on my 06 and have things mostly buttoned up. Only problem is that the car won't start! It won't even try to turn over. Any advice on things to check? The message center is complaining about a few things including "check charging system," "odometer data error," and "low fuel level."

I don't think the fuel level is an issue, it's probably just complaining because there is a little less than a quarter tank left.

The odometer thing is strange, when I first turn the key to the accessory position, it shows the proper mileage, but then it blanks out. It almost seems like there is something wrong with the computer. The tune loaded fine w/ no issues but if I try to read any problem codes, it gives an error.

Battery seems fine, to be on the safe side, I ran it on the charger to make sure it had a full charge.

My only thoughts at the moment are that it might be something alternator related or I somehow managed to fry the computer. I've installed the blower, 90mm MAF, 39# injectors, 3.6 pulley, and a blower tune, all from the good folks at JDM.

Thanks!

Check the fuses in the SJB, the odometer error leds me to believe that. I beleieve the PCM fuse is the one to check.

I had the same thing a while back. My computer was fried and needed replacing - I hope this isn't what's happened to you!

I just checked a bunch of fuses in the SJB and in the distribution box and didn't find any that were blown. Very strange.

Ack, I was afraid it might be something like this. Did you have to take it to a dealer to get the computer replaced?

It fits well and looks great sitting in there. I went real slow and took my time. I had to stop a few times for a damaged part (heat exchanger was beat up pretty bad in shipping) and a missing part (alternator pulley removal tool). Make sure to check the parts list very closely! Saleen was actually back ordered on the pulley tool, so that added a bit of a delay. JDM ended up sending me one. The tips that I read both here and on another site were very valuable. I would recommend adjusting the boost actuator prior to installing, it is very difficult to reach once the blower is on. The stop screw is a pain to adjust as well but there isn't a good workaround here as it's in the way of one of 8 manifold screws. It was also tricky getting the stock rubber intake tube over the 90mm MAF, but some Windex helped move things along.

Probably had to remove the battery... just gives you more room to work.

Yep, the battery was out for the install.

I would reinstall the factory tune and try cranking it; you never know.

Also, I remember reading something about how the crank sensor can throw odd codes. I can't remember if this would apply to your situation, but you may want to run a search for it. I think it was during someone's pully install. I could be off, but just trying to help.

Ahhh, I didn't think of cranking with the stock tune. It fired right up!

Thanks everyone for your help! I'll let you know how things progress once I get back w/ JDM to sort out the blower tune. Only a few more days of the car sitting idle.

Not like my situation is the same or anything, but when I got my xcal2 from bamachips, my computer code (located on sticker in the engine compartment) was one that doug had never seen before. So, needless to say, when I tried to fire it up, it would crank but not start. Doug then sent me one with the correct code and it worked fine. Maybe not the same problem but figured I would throw it out there.

How hard was it to install? I contacted Saleen for their instruction manual and asked if a DIY mechanic could do it...they sent it too me but also didn't recommend self-install

Read the instructions-you can do it. Basic hand tools required.

It wasn't too difficult to install and I wouldn't even rate myself at the DIY mechanic level. All the advice I had read online from those that went before came in handy (i.e. you don't really need to remove the hood as Saleen suggests, screw-type hose clamps are ideal, the coolant will in fact spill all over the valley when removing the lines to the heater core, etc.). I did a lot of the work on my own, but got some buddies to help with getting the blower up on the engine.

I definately think it is an issue with the tune or computer. Does the Saleen delete the charge motion plates? Just curious for tuning reasons.

I know a couple of guys who have installed there own Saleen superchargers. I haven't heard of them having these issues.

Good luck, and keep us in the loop!

Glad to hear you got things running smoothly again. Can only imagine how bad you felt when you went to turn it over after the install and the bay was void of life.

It's pretty easy really. If you're the type that does simple maintenance things like change spark plugs etc., then you can do the install.

Update: I recieved the programmer back from JDM today (actually a brand new programmer) and the blower tune loaded up just fine and the car started with no issues! I only had a few minutes to play before work but the few trips around the block were a blast. Next up: gauge install this weekend and hopefully some dyno time next week!

I think the problem with the original programmer ended up being that JDM didn't realize the unit was locked so the tunes didn't load onto the unit properly.

Thanks JDM! and thanks to everyone here for your advice!
