S550 Six Piston Brembos on the S197

I don't see any mention of this mod here, so I thought I'd post this in case anyone is interested in a big brake upgrade on the cheap (relatively speaking).

I just finishing fitting 2015+ Performance Pack six piston Brembos with 15" rotors on my S197. With the right mix of parts, it all bolts right up.

What's needed:

2015+ S550 Brembo cailipers
1 x MOTORCRAFT BRCF312
1 x MOTORCRAFT BRCF313
These can be found at numerous vendors for a hair over $200 per (though there is a $50 core charge to contend with) or salvage yard from an S550 PP car

2 x 2013-2014 GT500 15" Rotors (factory or aftermarket)

Brake pads for 2015+ Performance Pack Mustang (I went with NAPA Semi-Metallics P/N UP9021M)

Caliper Hardware kit (clips, pins, pad retainers) (I used NAPA P/N UP 84377A, about $25, includes hardware for both calipers)

2013-2014 GT500 Brake hoses or aftermarket stainless lines (I used NAPA P/N UP 683639 and UP 683640. Excellent OEM quality, but you do have to grind away a bit of extra steel on one side of the large banjo fitting to match the 2015+ Brembo caliper. Others have used Russell P/N 693380, which has small round banjo fittings and avoids this step).

The magic for getting everything to fit is the 2015+ Performance Pack calipers, paired with the 2013-2014 GT500 15" rotors (2015+ 15" rotors will NOT work for this mod)

Wheel fitment also needs to be considered. At least 19" wheels are needed (15"rotors are BIG), and some 19" won't work if the spoke clearance or inner barrel diameter is not sufficient. (I'm running 2015+ 19" Performance pack wheels, and even then added 5mm wheel spacers because I didn't care for the spokes passing only a hair above the caliper face.

I am doing the same thing, only difference i am using the four piston S550 calipers,fr3z-2b120-h (L/F) fr3z-2b121-h (R/F) and 14" rotors. The hoses are the same.

Here are the parts that i used for the conversion, not every part is needed, some are optional some are needed as part of the conversion.

front Calipers, Ford:
FR3Z-2B120-H L/F
FR3Z-2B121-H R/F
Washer
1/2" Diameter, 4 needed. Goes between spindle and caliper to center the caliper.
Hardware kit, NAPA:
UP84274A
Rotors 14", Front 2010/2014 Mustang GT
SPH-127-61089 L/F
SPH-127-61089 R/F
Brake Pads,Optional
Ford, GR3Z-2001-B
Extreme Power Stop, Z26
EBC, DP33042Z (what i used)
The above parts list constitutes what is needed to do the conversion.

Additional parts that maybe needed, depending on your vehicle model/year:
Brake Hoses
Russell 693380. Avoid square banjos as they require some modification. Round banjos will fit with no modifications.
Front Spacers.
Maybe needed, depends on your wheels size and offset.

This is all you need, get all the parts "before" you put your car on jacks. Ask me how i know! Good Luc

I know this is a pretty old thread but did you guys run the wheel spacers with the OEM studs? Any issues?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but having a nightmare trying to fit S550 GT500 4 pots to my 2008 GT.

I’ve got 14” rotors from a 05-09 GT500, but when come to fit with washer fitted between hub and caliper, the rotor is touching the caliper on inner side, and to get to fit the disc needs a spacer between hub and disc. The offset of the rotors seems off.

Can anyone please shed some light?

I have seen the 14" 4 pot Brembo's from later S197 Mustangs fitted to the 2008 with no problem. It sounds like you are using S197 rotors with S550 calipers. I think you need to match the calipers to the rotors.

if I remember correctly, and reading the detailed posts in this thread, the 2013-2015 GT500 rotors are correct; and also if I remember correctly they are 15" not 14"

I think a slight mis-alignment is expected and the pads need to wear in a little; but the washers might need to be a bit thinner or thicker to center it better

The 2013-2015 GT 500 rotors are 15" and will fit with the 6 pot S550 Brembo's as stated in the earlier posts, but he is using the 14" 4 pot Brembo's from the S550 and trying to use 2005-2009 rotors. I think there is a difference in the offset.

You need 2010/2014 rotors, thats probably your problem.

So I’m using 14” rotors off a gt500, I thought these were the ones needed?

I thought the pcd was the same so depth no different?

All discs for the shelbys are 46mm height. :/

thanks mate, I’ve read all the posts, but the pcd of the the gt500 rotors is the same I believe, so it wouldn’t make any difference. So frustrating as they bolt straight on. If I add the washer it just pushes them further out. I’d need to use a spacer between the hub and disc which isn’t great.

Can you post a picture of where the caliper is hitting the rotor? That way we may have an idea of whats going on.

Its on the inside edge of the caliper. Done my best to try show, as car is back together (minus the Brembos).

I think this is the basic problem with using the S550 calipers on the S197 car . . . they don't quite center right. You either need to shim the rotor out a hair, or grind down the inside pad a bit to make it fit. I'm thinking maybe a belt sander on the pad might do the trick, but I've never actually done that and don't know what problems might result.
