S&B intake
Anyone have any experience with the S&B CAI's for our cars? Does it require a tune or is it like the K&N? All I can find on here is that they are similar to the FRPP ones but for the price it seems like it should be a definite contender in the infinite world of CAI's. only $199 here----http://www.inmotionperf.com/cart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=238

I just checked their web site and it doesn't say anything about a tune required.

It's a good price, but I don't know how it performs. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

I have the S&B and it does not require a tune. Although Brent and Doug both said they have tunes or can make tunes for it. I've never gotten a code and can confirm by seat of the pants that it adds power. Take off is a lot more pronounced and pulls great at the top of the power band. Don't have Dyno's here that I trust so haven't done that, although S&B claims like 15hp.
I got it because it does not require a tune since there's no tuners here and I'm a little paranoid of messing with the computer right now. However, if I was looking for proven power, I would go with one of the other CAIs and the Predator with a tune.

I can confirm scramblr's comments - no tune required and never gotten a "Check Engine Light" indicator. I have not had a chance to dyno it yet, but my MPG's have improved.
One of the engineers from S&B emailed me some info a few days ago when I inquired if they were working with
any of the reprogramming kit vendors - I will post the reply here when I get home later today.
And yes, this is what the FRPP one is/was going to be...I don't know now, they have delayed so many times that I got tired of waiting. If you look at the S&B installation instructions, you can clearly see in few pictures the "Ford Racing" logo on the intake tube

According to Jay Crouch of S&B Filters - It meets all EPA/CARB regulations with the factory settings.
Here is a portion of an email he sent to me a few days ago:
In regards to the dyno, you can rest assured that you’re reading it correctly. The numbers you quoted were “peak” numbers and they are very respectable for an intake system that doesn’t require a reprogram of the Spanish oak software. Peak power numbers are great for bench racing, but power increases under the entire curve is what really counts. If you can bring the usable power on sooner and carry it longer in the RPM range, you’ll dramatically improve throttle response and fuel mileage. Your fuel mileage will increase from the reduced throttle input needed to leave from a stop and/or to maintain cruise speeds. This all comes from increasing the torque output earlier in the RPM band and extending those gains as far as possible.
With that being said, please compare our power graph against any of our competitors and you’ll clearly see that we dominate in mid-range power increases. As a matter of fact, our kit produces more power quicker and carries it further in the RPM range then any other kit currently on the market. This translates into increased throttle response, improved fuel mileage, and a much quicker vehicle. You’ll also find that you might not need to drop a gear to pass slower traffic or to climb a certain grade.
The Spanish Oak software that is used in the current Mustang is very temperamental, but there are gains to be made with a reflash. The problem with a reflash is that it voids the warranty on the engine and the engine management system immediately. If you experience engine trouble and you’re unable to remove the aftermarket software, it is extremely likely that your vehicle warranty will not be honored by the dealer. With that being said, all S&B Performance intake kits are designed to increase the performance of an engine and protect it from ingesting dirt & dust with a 99%+ efficiency rating. We work very hard to insure our intakes work properly with the OEM software and that all EPA/CARB regulations are met as well (Unless otherwise stated).
I hope that I have answered your questions thoroughly and provided you with all the information you needed. Please keep an eye out for your Precision Cleaning Kit over the next week as well. Thanks again for choosing the S&B performance intake kit and for your continued support.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

I emailed them to make sure. They are from Ontario California, so suspect they'd be smog legal, although K&N still isnt and they are Riverside I believe.

The K&N is now. They released their kit before approval, since it can take six months or more to receive it. If you want a sticker for, you can call and ask for one.

Thanks dude! I'm hoping to get some braided hoses like you have - that looks really sharp. I'm also hoping that I can find a plenum cover that will fit under the tower strut brace.

Here's also some photo proof that the Ford Racing CAI is made by S&B...this is directly from S&B's installation manual...note the "logo" on the intake tube
