Hey All,

Just found out I'll be in Germany another 3.5 years...bummer. Anyway, I'm getting ready to purchase the JLT2 and XCAL2 from Doug and was also thinking about swapping out the gears. I've read a couple of times that having the 4:10s and driving at 100+ for long periods of time is not good.

This is an issue for me since I'll be driving 120 - 130+ on the autobahns for the next 3.5 years. Should I wait until I get back to the land of the speed challenged? Thx....

If you really plan on driving that high for that long, I would hold off on the gears. JMHO

Well......there is definately is a silver lining to this story.....I am doing 3000 rpm at 80 with a 27 inch tall tire and 4.10's.....so if you are going to be doing 130 on a regular basis (you lucky dog) then stay with the 3.55's (or 3.31's if auto)

Good idea, especially since I have 3k to spend on mods right now and another 2k would be minimal, however, I can't install that and there's no one over here I would trust to do it.

+1 3.90s

Not a bad idea, but isn't it better to run 4:10s? If so, would it be more cost effective to just wait until I get back and put 4:10s in rather than doing another swap? Is there a big difference between the 3:90s and 3:55s with 5 speed manual GT? Guess I could if there's enough to gain.

I thought you were running a AUTO tranny. I hear that the 3:90 gear ratio helps with the extra gears in the S197. If your going to be running 100+ everyday, I might not do it in 4:10's, but if you want 4:10's I would wait. It's not a cheap job to do and to pay twice is never good.

Well with the price of gasoline and when I was in Germany it was rationed on base I would stick with the stock gearing!

LOL. Paying $2.46 for 87 and $2.55 for 93. Rationed 400L per month. I think the prices are comparable to the States and I've never used all 400L. Then again, I now have the Mustang....
