Running motion delete plates temporarly just to my tuner.

Well basically what the title states. Thinking of not paying the rip off labor fees to have these bad boys installed. Only problem is that I'll be making a 2 hour trip. I already have a intake a 93 octane Xcal2 tune, so will I be ok?

Thanks guys,
Brandon

Probably not....the motor assembly for the plates would be removed, but the car wont know that and would try to move the motors causing it to go into limp mode i believe

Ok, I was wondering about it going into limp mode and acting like poop.

Bad idea. it may or may not go into limp mode but I still wouldn't do it. why not ask your tuner to send you a tune so you can get to his shop?

Yeah I'll call them up and see if they can email me a tune just to get up there and then retune.

You could just take your tools with you and swap them at your tuners. Only takes an hour or so.

You can leave the motor attached and pluged-in, just remove the arms. You will not notice the full benefits of the delete plates, but the car should run fine. I would not run that way for long.

The 1st delete plate install write-ups, which did not go over tuning, just told people to leave the motor atached and pluged-in.

Like scramblr said, you could also just show up early and do it yourself in about an hour.

This will not work. I tried that and I still got codes. The engine had noticably reduced power as well. Do it right and get a proper tune for the delete plates.

As in they wanted to charge me 4 hours of labor at 80 bucks an hour when I know I can do it myself in a hour, hour and thirty minutes. They're a great tuner for SCT however.

It would be best to remember that shops charge a flat fee, doesnt matter if the guy takes 30 minutes to do the job, if "the book" says its going to take 2 hours thats how much your going to get charged.

Where is this shop located at? 4 hrs seems mighty excessive for that mod.

If that incuded a Dyno tune I would say it's reasonable but if not, that is excessive.

Well I would be doing a lot of things at once. Lt's, motion delete plates, a 100 shot, etc...

And no, that doesn't include ANY dyno tuning time.

Steeda's site states it's a three hour job and a qualified technician should do the job. If it takes three hours for a qualified technician to do this mod, I would not want them near my car.

Worked for me. Are you sure you left the motor plugged in? This is just to get it tuned, not for joy riding around town or trips to the track.

I did leave the actuator plugged in. It took about an hour for the code to appear but it did happen. I don't remember exactly what the code read but it was something to do with the CMCV.
I also had long tube headers with a catted x-pipe and an aftermarket intake as well. It's possible that there was something about that combination that the computer didn't like. Maybe that's the difference and why I got a code and you didn't.

It only took me just less then an hour to swap them with removing the motor.

281GT, I apologize if my last post seemed rude, that was not my intent. After rereading it, I feel that it sounded that way.

I had problems with my tune and had to drive about an hour and half total to get things squared away. The how-to I had for reference stated to leave the the motor plugged in and the computer would be happy. I re-mounted the motor and plugged it back in, and threw no codes during my short drives. Obviously this is not ideal, and any change to this motor should be accompanied by a tune.

I guess the moral of the story is, your mileage my vary.
