Ruby gets new racing shoes
#1
Ruby just received her new racing tires from the TireRack. They are 18x9.5 Kazera KZ-A, Black, fitted with BFG 275/35R18 Drag Radials.

I have not had a set of racing tires since 1970 when I had a set of Goodyear Bluestreaks on my '69 Road Runner. Any advice on how to break in these things, how much air to run and how to launch with them would be appreciated. Thanks

Well you are going to need to heat them up a bit I would start out running somewhere around 20-25 psi at the track and then adjusting accordingly.

Thanks for the replies guys I only got two for right now but I plan on getting matching ones to run on the street when I can afford it. When I do, it will be 18x8.5 with 255/45Z18 BFG KDW's on the front and 18x9.5 with 285/40Z18's in the rear.
I hope to get to the drag strip tomorrow. If I do, I will start out at 22 psi and go down 2 psi at a time until I either 1.) stop improving or 2.) break something Either case, I'll let you know what happens.

How are you going to drive them in the rain down there in FL? You will be spinnin all over the place. Do not know correct air pressure but do know if its too low you will spin the wheels inside the tires. Been there Done that !
I like everyone else are waiting to see them on the pony. Did you put them all around or just the rear? ROLL ON

But the small diameter will help the gear ratio at the strip.
I got them from the TireRack.com and the pair cost $860 mounted, balanced, lugs, and shipping.
