Right Rear Noise... Gone to Ford Engineers
Right Rear Noise... Gone to Ford Engineers
Soooo last Saturday night I hear this weird rotational friction noise from the right side of the rear end. At first i though something was touching the rotor since it was consistent with rpms and speed. (the faster I went, the louder it got). So i jacked the ucar up on stands and spun the wheel by hand.... sure enough i hear a faint sound... so it goes to ford... and the drama begins
They call me monday and say that its the bearing and that it needs to be replaced along with the gears (i guess they do it all as a kit or something, i'm not sure) and it'll take 2 days for the part to come in so they give me a rental. Part comes in and they still hear the problem, and tell me that they can escalate it and call the Ford Engineers for help since the parts wont do the trick OR if i can live with the noise i can have it back since it doesn't affect the drivability of the car. TO HELL WITH THAT! FIX IT! So I have them call Ford Engineers, and they're placing some kind of dampeners on the problem that won't come in till Tuesday of next week.
Anyone ever heard of anything like this?? If the dampeners don't fix it i'm ready to have them replace the whole **** axle!

I had the same thing except the noise went away for about three days, now I'm taking it back to the dealer
I have a weird frictional, squeeling (almost) noise from the rearend of mine. It does it constantly up until I am able to get it to the dealer, and then it stops. Only does it when barely moving in first or second gear and usually while turning. Is this the same thing or is yours directly related to the rotor....all I know is my warranty is about to run out and it is driving me crazy!!!
OKay so they're convinced that it has to do with the two TSBs that were out for the rear axle whine. They've replaced the rear gear twice now and that didn't fix it so they ordered the dampener kit which also didn't fix the problem. Today they're installing a 3rd set of rear gears to see if that solves it, and if not they're escalating it to Ford's Build Engineers to be resolved.
I'm really getting annyoed with this... I haven't had my car all week!

Mine whines too. I just replaced the differential fluid with 80w140 Synthetic from Redline hoping to fix this whine on deceleration. Next is the XL-3 Additive Friction Modifier. I will let you know if it does anything to eliminate the whine. I can live with it I guess but it is getting annoying. After reading about the dampers I am beginning to wonder if it might be that. Anybody know if the damper is an easy do it your self job? Car is well out of warranty. I always thought it was the ring and pinion gear. Mine is a 11/2/04 build date
always replace bearings, all, w/ gear change... cheap insurance.
whine... did you pull cover, were the shimms getting into the axel gears?
theyll make a little noise, just pull c clip, and reshimm
Ive NEVER had a whine, even w/ 4.56's on 8hr 1 way trips, track...
