Reputable shop for a gear install? (NYC Area)
Just got my 3.73 set today
($150 free s/h buyfordracing.com) and got my oil on the way and now spending time looking for a shop to do the install. It's kinda a catch 2-2 here, don't wanna break the bank on the install, but want quality work. Can't have everything huh? Maybe?
Somewhat of a drive from the city but a very good shop (builds racecars, custom dyno tuning, etc)

With the gears themselves, it included the crush collar, pinion nut and shims. Would any shop that does gears regularly have other necessities? I have just over 16k so are bearings an issue? (I haven't really beaten on my car....yet just a couple of hard pulls and few burnouts.)
you need marking compound, ring gear bolts (I wouldn't reuse the ones in there now), both pinion bearings (your current bearings cannot be reused), and shims. All of which comes in the M-4210-B install kit ($50). It's good to have an extra pinion nut because you really only want to put that thing on once. If they have to make adjustments they have a spare. Don't forget the Black RTV, 2 bottles of gear oil and a bottle of friction modifier. I've used all gear oils and I've found that the motorcraft 75w-140 from the dealership is the quietest stuff.
I've had my gears done 3 times. The first time I didn't supply the complete install kit and they went ahead and charged me $125 for the install kit from the dealership because that's the only way they can get the parts. Get it done right the first time. It took me the 3rd time to get it right, no noise, etc.

I would trust JDM to do it. Personally I would buy all the parts from the gear shop, have them quote you install with the parts, including the ring gear. That way if they make too much noise you can blame them and they have to fix it for free. I've learned that lesson, it cost me $500

But I would suggest DiFeo Ford. They are in that area I believe.

Both are mustang-only shops that are WAY more than capable of handling that install. The owner of Real-Speed used to be an engineer for Steeda. Ask for Dan and tell him that Tommy from LI-Stangs sent you.

Well I just got back from JDM and **** these guys did a good job. No whine at all. Pulls like a bastard too. Their rate I felt was fair and even though the work time over ran the quoted time, I was still charged what I was qouted for. I guess you get what you pay for. It shows. Recommended.
if not jdm, i have heard great stuff from big daddy performance or if you want i think evolution performance in PA i think would be a great choice. Any one of these three companies would be a great choice. I recommend big daddy performance from hearing about all of my buddies with there stangs. I myself have a dyno tune session i will be setting up with them right after the holidays
