Reprogram an SCT tuner

Have my SCT XCAL2 bought from Bamachips before he joined AM. Tuner was programmed for my V6, traded up to an '07 GT and wanted to know can I get the tuner unlocked and programmed to the new PCM in the GT?

Was the V6 ever returned back to stock? If not, then it's still locked. So in that case you might be better off just buying a new tuner (instead of paying to have it unlocked and paying for more tunes).

No I offered to have the buyer contact me if interested but never heard from them, so I still have it locked and tuned for the v6. Doesnt Bama offer tunes for life?

So it's basically a paper weight right now. You'll have to send it to SCT and pay $150 to get it unlocked, then pay AM $150 for tunes. The "Free Tunes For Life" offer is not transferable to a new owner or a new car. A new X3 would cost you $380, so I guess you'd be saving $80 by fixing your current tuner.

Womprat,

Unfortunately since the device is locked, it does need to be sent back to SCT to be unlocked. Like StupidGenius said, SCT charges $150 to unlock the device and then you'll be able to use it on your new GT! However. Once it's unlocked you will need to buy some tunes, if you'd like to go with Bama you can buy into our Free tunes for life program for a one time fee of $150.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of any assistance! Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

-Dan

Wow glad to know this. I am surprised at the cost to have all this done. I understand why, but still that is a lot.

Sounds like they charge you for their "lost" profits when sending it in for unlocking. I can't imagine the process being any more involved than say a factory default reset on a home router.

I agree. I understand tunes costing because there is time and effort put into fine-tuning them for your car. However, you can't tell me they have to dismantle and change out a chip or solder anything or whatever to unlock one. It is probably just a flash of an EPROM or something similar. So the unlocking charge does seem really high.

As a real relationship builder and promotional tool, they should offer "trade-in" discounts and let you send your old one in and credit you toward a new one WITH tunes for life. Maybe even a competitive upgrade where you send in a Diablo and get credit toward an SCT.
