Basically Ford sticks the CMRC contraption that looks like partial throttle plate in each intake runner path, which blocks ultimate airflow and power. It’s suppose to “tumble” the air low speed for improved power (& maybe emissions) and open at high speed (valve actuator rod still in the middle of the intake path).

Mustang 5.0 magazine tested one of a CMRC-delete kit: “at no point did the factory CMRC setup provide any power or torque advantage”. Peak-to-peak gains with the CMRC deleted were 9.7 HP and 10.2 lb-ft, which are pretty impressive PLUS you eliminate some complexity.

However the CMRC shouldn’t be eliminated unless the computer is re-tuned; has anyone done this? I’m especially interested in CMRC delete and a Cold Air Intake to really open the intake path and how the car should be tuned?

Thanks for the link, but it's not the same positive results that Mustang 5.0 magazine got:

Paul's High Performance in Jackson, MI did the tuning.

i wonder if the overall gain in the low end had to do with the tune, not the uselessness of the CMRCs

It's funny how depending on the particular magazine, the results that the consumer gets vs what the magazine gets are usually not anywhere close.

I remember last year when the CMRC deletes came out they seemed to be the hot thing, but now don't hear much about them.

You definately need a tune , Steeda kept trying to release them but couldn't get the tune right. Once they finally did , I got the first set they released and they dynoed my car after installing them. The results are below in my sig ...

Deleting them seems pretty stupid. When you go wide open, so do your intake runners. I can't see how it can possibly be of any noticeable benefit. But, hey...the company making the deletes is sure putting the blindfolds over its patrons. More power to 'em!

When I originally got my car, I got a custom tune and a base line pull done. With that 87 custom tune and a 100% stock car I gained 12/12 (if I remember correctly). So, I agree with your statement. I think it's the tune and not the deletion of the plates.

It's not even that. Everyone here is all about putting up bigger numbers than the next guy on the dyno. You don't run on the dyno at partial throttle, so I don't see why anyone would even consider putting in the time and effort to execute this mod. And as people were saying, it's degrading to low-end numbers. May as well put a tornado in your intake and gain 10% on your fuel economy, too.......
